Flowers, Dugan, Jared Printy, Davis are all expected to show up.

Opponents will scheme against these 4. WMU’s overall success will then depend on whether the four new scholarship players will add to any advantage the returning 4 create or have to backfill for not performing as needed.

Akron is a game Western can win. Their strength is with skilled, athletic perimeter combo types. So Josh Davis, Jared Printy, Patrick Emillen and Wilkins can’t afford to be deficient.

An effective Dugan could make the difference. Akron doesn’t have anyone who can effectively check him straight up.

Eliminating unforced turnovers and getting to the foul line 20+ times with making 16+ is the ticket.
We're 10.5 point dogs, and I'm pretty sure we'll cover that.
9 FT attempts. Seth with no fouls. 16 team turnovers to 7 assists.

Just this alone tells me that passivity reigned.

The 4 newbies were a combined 3-16 with Emillen taking only 1 shot in 12 minutes.

Printy and Dugan 4-15 FG's with 1-6 from 3.

Starters 3-23 from arch. Akron 50% shots from behind arc making only 6-31.

Zips open the door but WMU steps away back to the curb.

Still going with them to win the West.
Real streaky shooting behind the arc so far.
Games seem like either 60% or 15%.

Precious little mid range game.

Seth only taking 8 shots and the team as a whole 9 free throws speaks to that point.

Jared is fine when he’s stepping into his shot. But catching as he’s moving away from the basket causes trouble. He can’t square up quickly and elevate to avoid contesting. Happens all too often.

“The shot” at Oakland was moving toward the ball and an easy jump to balance situation.

This is an excellent point, IMHO

Shooting percentages have varied.

But.....so have the quality of the shots being taken.

Very young back behind the arc. Printy needs to step it up though

Do you mean make more shots than miss?

The kids are all playing hard Printy in particular.

But you have the skill set you have. You can’t pretend that you’re something you’re not. This is the challenge for any coach. I think Hawk is doing the best he can. It’s still early yet. You need to get the kids as much experience and confidence as possible so that hopefully by years end there’s an opportunity to peak.

I noted early wins were going to be hard to find this season, but this is a FUN team to watch play. Like all younger teams, they have their ups and downs. But I agree with GB that the effort is 100%-both players and coaches. You have to love this team for their effort! You can't ask for more than that.
