NORTH DAKOTA ST VS EASTERN WASHINGTON

The Bison have won 6 of the last 7 FCS titles. The Eagles have 1 title (2010) but are a consistent FCS power. Will North Dakota St make it #7 or will Eastern Washington upset the favorites?

Game time: 11AM CST
Channel: ESPN2
Bison up 10-0, game probably over.
EW scores on fake field goal as the half expires.

17-10 Bison
24-10 Bison. Nice catch to get the TD.

Great crowd there.
Congrats NDSU.

National Champions!! Again!
NDSU loses a lot, maybe next year they return to Earth. Great dynasty.

Very impressive to dominate a division like this. But this is why you don’t want a G5 playoff. The championship game ws good for a total of 7 posts. Four of them from the same 2 people. There is just no interst in college football games that are not part of the highest classification of the sport.

I don’t know. Let’s see how many people watched the game without any promoting.

Bisonville will have a huge thread. Other boards will have good threads on them as well.

That thread was started 15 December and gameday itself is only the last couple pages.
The ratings will show what they do every year - about 1.5 million viewers. Relative to the existing bowl games, that will be ahead of Troy-Buffalo, SDSU-Ohio, and Boise-BC, and such, and just behind Marshall-USF and Duke-Temple.

Personally, I would have more interest in watching an App State vs Boise for a G5 Natty then watching another P5 CFP. It gets old knowing only a handful of programs will be considered eligible largely based on tradition before the year even starts.

The playoffs are so new more people will probably start feeling this way as time goes on. The real reason eight will never happen is the bowls will become meaningless. It has already happened to an extent with New Years six not meaning as much.Every bowl below that is like a meaningless G5 bowl. The best way to help the G5 would be each champ faces a P5 and play up. App St vs Purdue would excite App St fans more than vs SDSU.
Maybe get a little of that underdog early NCAA basketball tournament mojo going. NDSU fans were happy dominating D2 now FCS ( new third level ).
A new coach might cause a drop but their new IPF and awesome sold out dome give them a big advantage. They will poach a good FCS coach if it does not work out.

Just to be fair, that was the pregame thread. There was another long gameday thread:

Not to mention seven or eight minor threads related to the title game.

But back to an earlier premise that the G5 shouldn't have a playoff because of the lack of posting in this thread, that's just a bad argument. This portion of the board is something like 65% G5 fans, 30% P5 fans, and 5% other. You guys don't care about FCS the other 364 days of the year, why is it surprising that you(as a group) don't care about FCS the day of the championship? That says nothing at all about interest in a G5 playoff, only the disinterest in FCS. A G5 playoff may work or it may not, but this thread isn't evidence one way or the other.
Nah a G5 Championship game would get a ton of American posters, and if a MAC or SBC school got in, from them too.

thanks - I was doing it from my phone, picked the pre-game thread. Combined, between on the NC threads, there are a couple thousand posts. Add the playoff threads, tens of thousands of posts. Not too mention hundreds at cs, thousands at bisonville, etc.

Honestly same here.

The data from the FCS championship relevant to whether a G5 playoff is or isn't a good idea are not post counts or message board page views.
The data from the FCS championship relevant to whether a G5 playoff is or isn't a good idea are ratings. This FCS championship game will come in somewhere over 1.5 million viewers. It's pretty consistent in a small sample: 2017 1.515M, 2016 1.562M.
That is just over the 1.346M that the CUSA champ - MAC champ matchup drew in the Boca Raton bowl. That is half what the mwc champ vs PAC12 middle of the pack got in the Las Vegas Bowl, 3.334M, and a million less than AAC CCG loser vs ACC middle of the pack in the Birmingham Bowl, 2.533M.
Those are the ratings for a lower level playoff. If someone wants to convince himself that a properly hyped "G5" championship will somehow double the viewers of an FCS championship, I don't believe that myself, but let's go down that road...double the FCS championship, double the FCS semifinals, even if you add a quarterfinal round with, say, MAC CCG numbers, and you have roughly the viewers, and therefore money that the AAC non-Fiesta Bowl bowls garner.
How does that replace the $91M the CFP distributed to the non-contract-bowl conferences each of the last two years? Even if you keep the CFP "Access Bowl" construct and this added on, it is a wash. In exchange for embracing lower level or second class status? No thanks.
I'm not an advocate for every team in the world moving up from FCS to FBS. But North Dakota State should be in the MAC or something with how many titles they've won and dominated in FCS.

The FBS Championship thread only had 113 posts. Must not be much interest in it.
