Both starting new teams in Memphis in the next few months.

Which do you feel has a better chance of success?

I think soccer will do well. I'll never forget the old Rogues, or the Americans for that matter.
I give the USL club about a 5% chance of failure. Established league, good venue.

No idea about the AAF. At least they have a TV deal in place.
Only wish the USL team owners would have followed the Tampa and Tulsa lead and went with the old NASL team name.

The Rogues fight song was the second best fight song of any team in Memphis history behind the Tigers.

Hope they will at least consider a throwback game.

The first few home games will be interesting. The newness of the team drawing crowds while Saturday night games in March (mid 40s game time) works against repeat fans.
My guess is that 901 FC will do very well while the AAF team will struggle. But it has more to do with the sports. Spring football has never worked and soccer is on quite the rise.

You are also going to get to see some really talented up and coming players on some of the other USL teams. It is more of a true minor league. AAF will be most washouts.
Depends on the cost structures. I believe the AAF team will generate more revenue - primarily due to the tv contract, but also will at least match ticket sales. However, costs have sunk many of these minor league offerings. Much will depend upon team salaries, overhead, and whether there are subsidies from the major leagues.
Agree with pretty much everyone else. I'm excited to see both, but I'm not optimistic about the AAF succeeding.
the AAF is being backed and supported by the NFL....I'd say that's a massive plus compared to past leagues

Soccer definitely has a cult following in Memphis, but for my money, if I had to choose, I'm going to see the Express every time vs. 901

Memphis / Mid-South is football crazy anyway
One thing in the AAF's favor is the teams aren't franchises. They'll all be league owned and run by one of the NFL's best gm's of all time Bill Polian. I do wish they'd pushed the start back to March though. With only a 10 game season a March start plus two weekends of playoffs would be over by Memorial Day. Factors in the USL's favor is the high credibility factor of playing in AutoZone Park and being owned by the Redbirds. 15 of their 17 home games are Saturday nights. Also the costs of the USL are low as it's pretty much a AA bus league.

NFL Europe?
Watch for the AAF Intro Ad during the Super Bowl

as I said, Memphis, the Mid-South and generally THE South regions are football crazy

don't worry, nobody on the Express wants to mess up your Tiger Lane spot
Will there be chicken bones all over Tiger Lane and the Liberty Bowl when we get to our seats for week one next fall?

oh heavens no Alfonso, unless you and your buddies have a Flash Mob scheduled after their season

I think the Express are targeting a different patron
What would me or my buddies have to do with that?

Just saw a really cool 30 sec ad for this new AAF on the NFL CBS telecast. Even saw the Memphis Express logo. Nice that the NFL puts their muscle behind this.
Atlanta's AAF coach just quit less than 2 months before the season

NFL isn't behind it, CBS is.
Commercials for the new AAF came on again during Pats-Chargers

Memphis Express just signed DT Anthony Johnson from LSU for this season....he's played for the Pats and was recently on NFL practice squads.....

trying to rediscover the work ethic that he had when he was the consensus #2 recruit in college football in 2011....behind some guy named Jadeveon Clowney

the league has talent, regional ties, etc....I'm gonna give it a shot
