Call me an idealist but does anybody else think Penny is the nexus our basketball program has been building towards since Bartow?

Penny is poised to do what Bartow, Kirk, Cal and Finch all tried to valiantly to do, ie put Memphis atop the college basketball world.

I can't help feeling there is something deeper about Penny's coaching tenure than simply replacing Tubby or coaching his Alma mater.

Penny is Memphis. He is the net cumulative of every hope and dream envisioned by all of our past coaches, players and fans.

Penny is Wilfong, Butler, Robinson, Finch, Bradley, Hilliard, Gunn, O J., McDowell, Lee, Turner, Baskerville, Madlock, Perry, Garner, Askew, Bedford, Ced, Ren, Burks, Snap, Gray, Williams, Hunt, Joe Jackson, and all of our current Memphis players and commits wrapped into one package this Christmas.

It just feels like destiny, but it is going to be quite the story if Penny brings that title home to Memphis, and he will do it for each of these coaches and players as well as for all of us who have been along for this ride on the Tiger train.

IDK but something about Penny and this upcoming run feels like everything has built towards this. This is Penny's destiny I believe. We shall see but I hope he does it for all the Tiger faithful.

All aboard!

Well his buddy that he went to coach for told him he would win 3 titles at Lester and then a string of titles at East before coaching Memphis and winning a title. The first 2 came true. Between that and the talent he's bringing in, I believe
All in
I’m aboard!!

All I know is, if it happens, it will make for one hell of a 30 for 30.

I'm thinking it's more of a two hour theater production

Winning the Oscar for best sports movie EVER!
Starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
Isn't optimism a great thing? Let's enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts.
It does seem as if the stars are aligning. Another thing is the Bartow and Kirk runs were sort of a surprise. Caliapri's was more anticipated. Penny's is getting to where its expected...that's not good...but I hope we hit the ground running next November and never look back!
I thought this was about that girl that worked at Danny's.

Bartow was not anticipated.
Kirk had his shoe box for recruiting. We were destined for NCAA penalties the day he was hired.
Cal was damaged goods but even with that he came with high expectations. Just don’t forget his first two years when some said he couldn’t get the job done... and he left town ahead of the NCAA investigators.

I nevered waivered on the Penny hire and look forward to a long successful run.

It’s amazing how someone with no clue about what he is posting puts out about former great Tiger coaches. Were you even going to games during Kirk years let alone Bartow?
Even with Penny, we have to win & win big eventually or the Memphis fan base will turn on him too - for sure a little more patient than with an outsider, but Memphis fans won't support a mediocre team very long. Yes everything is right for great success, just hope Penny can make it happen.

I mean, you can take "Memphis" and "Penny" out of that statement, and it applies to any school, right?

Sure but there is just something different about the expectations & judgement process related to a hometown legend & hero - and that means objectivity is likely to be skewed. Right now there is lots of patience & hope, with the recruiting - but that has also elevated expectations. And most schools & fans don't have a hometown legend coaching & the emotional attachment to that coach. With it brings the potential for less than objective judgement of the team & the coach.
