Full Version: Some Team Stat Comparison 2017/2018
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
Some stats between 2017/2018 - All of this is dependent on a number of things... like opponents between the two seasons... etc... Interestingly we improved on passing yards given up per game ... by an ENTIRE 2 points... You can see we slipped in rushing but improved by quite a bit in our passing offense... Still too many MAC ranks in the lower half of the conference in too many areas... Just for fun I threw in the 2014 season... which would be Flecks second season... Just some interesting numbers... do with them what you will.... ( i would have bet quite a bit that if Wassink was healthy the entire two years... our passing stats would have gone up by quite a bit and likely aided our rushing stats... in that defenses would need to loosen the box more often...).

It is depressing to me that with all the talent on that 2017 defense they had such mediocre numbers. Probably worse injuries than I remember on that side of the ball though.

Buffalo hurts those numbers. There were a lot of games they kept us in.

That is true, I forgot about that. Seems like OT numbers should be thrown out except maybe for individuals.
Another thing to take into consideration... our field position game this season... notice the numbers on defense aren't much off from 2014 yet the points are quite different... special teams hurt us quite a bit this season...

Runninggame, I like you, and you are a very good Bronco, but honestly, you should change your name to "excuseman" because you always have an excuse for this team and Lester. I realize I can be too hard sometimes, but I wonder whether you are Lesters wife or dad.

It's all good though. With so many of us being so upset with the team and the coaches, it's ok having someone who thinks they are all great no matter what they do. Stay positive brother. Even if the rest of us can't.

What excuse? I was stating a point of fact that changes how we should view the numbers. Flush has another good one. It’s a fact that the defense last season did manage to keep us in games, like MSU, Akron, big stop against EMU. OT kind of wrecks those numbers. You shouldn’t equate a compliment with an auto excuse.

It’s easier being a fan when you root for everyone to succeed. I’ve been the same here and for many years on MDead under the same handle before those rotten bastards were too much for me to click on their crap anymore, including laying off DD.

Now, you want to see me go critical, start talking about the media.

Yes... where is the media coverage of reaction from coaches players and such... we are really in need of a media outlet that asks the tough questions and gives us some real insight into whats happening...

Fair enough. And as I said already, it's all good. I appreciate your glass half full disposition. I'm envious. But don't you have moments when you just feel like tearing Lesters head off like the rest of us? There have been a plethora of very low moments this season.

Catch any of us in the heat of a game and you're going to get passion. Yesterday was a hard game to watch, but life moves on.

No matter what any of us say Tim Lester is going to be Head Coach the next 3 seasons. Unless the wheels completely come off the wagon-and performance clauses in the contract are violated-you can bet your last Dollar that Lester will be here for another 3 seasons.

So you can either support his program and do anything you can as a fan to assure we have success or be a completely negative squeaky wheel. If you provide positive support for the program it can only help recruits see a positive experience at Western and among our fanbase. On the other hand, if you're continually negative it's not going to do anything about Lester's duration as our HC, but it might make those seasons proportionately more painful-by driving away a few recruits that could otherwise help us.

I've seen a lot of coaches come and go at Western since I first started watching the football program in 1971. As a good person Tim Lester is probably at the top of that list. Where he stands as a head coach remains to be seen, but there is no question he loves Western. I'll give him my support until his last day as Western's head coach. Why not?

Because he's being paid close to a mil a year to win football games. Not to give you the nostalgic feels. Highest paid coach in the conference should expect better than average results.

Our "attitudes" on this board have nothing to do with any recruits coming to WMU. What a stretch.

If fans are negative or heckling in the stands, different story. No place for that. However, we have instead gotten apathy and empty stands. THAT can hurt recruiting.

Honestly, no. If you sat with me during games, I would not seem so optimistic.

Things that make me despise coaches: being like Rod Carey. Leaving before bowl games. Very poor clock management skills. Blowing up good teams or systems because you think your better than Vince Lombardi. Letting players act like douchebags.

I tend to wait for the end to judge the coach. Perhaps it’s because I’ve coached a little and can see how wildly divergent the fans’ opinions can be from the reality on the field.

I will say the Toledo and Ohio games troubled me. Under Cubit we’ve had a few games where we lost the edge. It makes me wonder if Lester’s teams have the killer instinct to win the big games. He does recruit better than Cibit overall. But I’ve been a die-hard Lions fan, so 7-5 doesn’t frustrate me as much.
