And if that is the case, I wouldn't care if the athletic programs were gone.

I'm with you Boca. I would lose all interest if we moved down a division. I would love to see them increase the playoff format to 8 teams (wouldn't be opposed to 16 either). Make each P5 Conference Champ an automatic qualifier. Have highest rated G5 team an automatic qualifier and two at large teams based on rankings. This gives all D1 schools a chance and would put a priority on winning your conference championship.

I don't really envision a complete collapse of the MAC, always a chance a few weaker programs drop down a division, but most are supported by alumni, sponsorships, student fees and university operating budgets to sustain all varsity sports-more so than ticket sales. UT has been one of the most successful MAC programs across all sports over the last decade+ so I don't see any need, push or interest (or financial crisis) to move to another conference any soon. We are what we are, nothing more, nothing less.
I agree with Boca.... I would prefer a complete shutdown of the football program if anything other than the current level of affiliation.

Changes should be made on D coaching side but the sky hasn’t fallen with a 7-6 record. The program will continue to prosper W & L wise.

Go Rockets!!!
Stay at the FBS level and like someone stated, create our own playoff...
Over half of FBS is G5... It could be done...
Also, stick together, and do not play P5 schools... Let them have their preseason scrimmages against the FCS programs...

That’s the point I was trying to say. The G5 teams should have their own play off. 8 or 16 teams. As far as playing the P5 teams I think that’s something we should not pass up. $$$$$ the more we pass on someone else will take it
I want to see us WIN. I also want to see a sold out packed Glass Bowl on SATURDAY NIGHTS where we used to play. Give us the ESPN $$$ to play on Saturdays. It's embarrassing to see 1/4 filled Stadiums for a Tuesday or Wednesday night games no matter which teams are playing.

GO ROCKETS !!!
One thing that might help attendance for televised home games is delayed broadcast. Or blackout home town. But I would not be happy with a blackout. What really gets me on weekday games are they put us on espn 3. That’s not a telvised game . And now they have espn + I wouldn’t mind the espn 3 or + if they would show the game on espn 2 as a replay
The big networks to include ESPN 1, 2 don't want the MAC teams playing against eachother anymore on Saturdays. Unless you are playing at a top 25 power 5 conference school, forget it.
Its a miracle that UT is able to recruit the way they do without the prime time TV exposure on Saturdays.
I want to stop seeing the backbreaking momentum changing untouched touchdown rushes up the middle from the other teams. Seemed like every game we lost there were at least one of those if not 2 or 3 and there were some in other games too. I'd also like to see us contain the rushing of opposing quarterbacks.

I be believe we gave up a lot of passing yards because we couldn't stop the run. I not sure if it was 100% scheme or repeated poor decisions. Either way, I feel it is mostly defensive coaching error.

Offensively, we were not terrible by any means. I believe one of the QBs will step up to be a reliable passer. Personally, I preferred E Peters over Mitch Gs play, but perhaps with another year of experience Mitch will go farther through his reads before running. Carter showed some promise in his limited play and then there is Cross who everyone seems to forget about because he didn't play. I have a feeling one of those 4 will step up to be a quality QB next year.

The cupboard isn't bare in the skill positions. Hopefully the OL will gel a little better next season and regain consistency, the OL wasn't terrible this year, just inconsistent and the lack of experience at QB didn't help.

While this year fell short of my expectations, I'm still a proud Toledo Alumni and football enthusiast.

I just feel that there isn't going to be enough talent in all of the right places for us to pull a rabbit out of the helmet & win the MAC next season. With a nucleus of some good young players now (Koback, Hines, etc...) a good recruiting class this year & next, we may be back in that mix by 2021 season. Mitch G will be a senior next season, so if he plays at QB in 2019 then that means we start all over again in 2020...Peters has 2 more seasons left. I'd prefer to see one of the redshirt freshmen or the incoming true freshman be given a couple seasons to grow into the role & develop their skills, so that a MAC championship in 2021 might be more achievable.

AMEN! MAC Championship last year! Winning records for the last 9 years in a row and 21 out of the last 25 years!!! This board is going to make my head explode. Before it does, this is AquaRocket signing off permanently. Over and out.
GO ROCKETS... thru GOOD times and the occasional bad.

GO ROCKETS !!!

The major sports networks have no interest in showing the MAC on Saturdays especially in the evenings when they can pick from the P5 schools for biggest ratings. So you could forego the ESPN deal and go with Saturday MAC games but in this era of declining attendance nationally I am not convinced that having UT home games on Saturday night (which UT would still not schedule against a national TV game of ND, UM or OSU) would suddenly create a wave of GB sellouts. Look we had some favorable times, games and weather early in this season and only sold out one game due to U Miami fans attending! Even our early season home games in 2017 leading up to at MACC season did not result in GB sellouts. I would be all for having every UT game on Saturdays but I am not in denial about what attendance would be, yes better than 14,000-16,000 mid week but not going to be sellouts in less we are talking about a P5 nationally followed team visiting, and we know that is an once in a decade occurrence.

I sure hope you’re not permanently leaving us. Some of us on this sports message board use it at times as a place to vent with other fans who know how we feel. If you don’t like something or agree with it, just skip over those comments and pay no attention. Any discussion is better than no discussion.
