Two years. Perhaps a vote of confidence for the recruiting class and being willing to make a staff change. I like him a lot, but hope to see a return of the MAC trophy in our near future. Fleck did get an extension after year two.
Should have held off one more year
Nice to see this administration reward mediocrity.
What a joke.

Accomplish nothing and get extended. That is the motto of WMU athletics.

Minnesota extended PJ... it’s common at this point in a contract...

I would bet PJ is bringing in millions from boosters
Two number 1 recruiting classes in a row.

Top in the Academic All Mac with 20 players.

Players heavily involved in community service.

Going to a Bowl Game against BYU in his second year.

. . . . . . .

Lost some games he should have won such as Ball State this year and Akron last year. That was disappointing.

Getting trounced by Ohio and Toledo were difficult losses to consume.

. . . . . .

Respect for players and emphasis on integrity, grades, and building role models. Bogan comes to mind as well as others.
Kathy needs to go. A year too early. Prove you can win. Still had 3 years left on his contract.
Always seems to offer extensions early, which would be a mistake when your school is almost never going to have buyout money.
They also restructured the buy out... making it less fiscally damaging over each year... WMU is doing its homework and by no means are we “stuck” with this staff now... but it sends a message of commitment to not only the staff but the recruits that WMU is behind this coaches vision and philosophy...

Recruits want to know that their commitment to a staff is backed up by a schools commitment to the staff.

I agree he’s -2 in 2 years in total games we should’ve won. Overpaid on the way in considering his credentials vs other MAC & G5 HCs. And the decision to re-up at this point is a questionable decision at best.
I think Lester got an extension for recruiting performance and taking WMU to a bowl game.

He got an extension because he’s buddies with the AD and she’s perfectly content to win 6-7 games yearly. Same reason he was grossly overpaid to begin with.

Good point. But also Culhane and Hawkins have gotten extensions when you can make a point it was a questionable decision to do so.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

This current administration (AD and alike) have no interest in fielding a football team that is capable of 8+ wins.

I am curious to see if there is a national search for defensive coordinator or if he hands the job to his buddy. I have a hunch which way it will go.

It’s the WMU athletics culture. At this point would anyone really be that surprised if she re-hired Culhane after AM decides to hang it up? Wouldn’t require much effort in terms of a search/etc

Epic Applause
In Dec 2014 after only 2 years as WMU coach, PJ was given a SIX year extension.
