Per Phil Steele 3 minutes ago via twitter:

Northern Illinois University head football coach Rod Carey has earned a performance-based, one-year extension to his existing contract.

Is this in addition to the secret extension before the season? Anyone got any intel on this?

Yep....And it's announced!

That being said.....Rod can you please gently let go of Coach U and hire a REAL DI OC?

Don’t forget a new QB coach. Time for some change.
“Performance based” LOL

STF redefining the term of performance or Hot Rod has the same agent as Kirk Ferentz
They forgot to list his 2-8 overall record in the postseason. Or does that not make for interesting information in a good press release?
Can we just start calling him Justice Carey instead of coach , it appears to be a lifetime appointment
Wasn't it $50,000 - $100,000 for a MAC Championship & Bowl Win?
This is quite a bit more.
STF never fails to disappoint. He is such a meatball.

These moves are so simple and so transparent from Frazier's perspective. An extension of a coach based on "performance", is telling the rest of the employing world, "Hey Hey look over here, I'm doing a great job, I can bring this success to your institution". Frazier is just trying to get out of town, not caring at all what he is doing to the future of NIU athletics.
Why "further" extend Carey at this time???

Is it not a red flag to the administration that he is the only "hot" NIU coach not to be pursued by outside programs? What does NIU see that the Pig10 and other self-annointed "P5" programs have chosen to ignore when outside coaching vacancies appear?

Side note: OMG offensive play calling was brutal during the bowl game...

The MAC has gotten stronger???

Damn I almost kept a straight face while I typed that.
You know, the original contract signed by the bozo whose name I have blocked out may have had verbiage that guaranteed one year extensions if certain things; six wins, MACC, bowl game, or graduation rates, excetra happened, that the contract had to be extended by one year. Just sayin.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Huskiebob, I'm surprised to hear you weigh in on this.

Love this quote from the daily Chronicle:
Quote:“I think this – it’s a lot harder to get to a bowl than it is to win one.”

There's 80 teams that go bowling and he thinks it's hard to get in one. All you have to do is go 6-6 to be eligible.

His first name is Rod and his last name is Carey.
MAC CHAMPS with the worse offense to ever win the MAC. WRs can't run routes, drop balls... QB slow and can't throw. Miracle we won the MAC. Have to say Carey got it done.
Damn ... tough crowd.

I just think that when Carey’s overall record is mentioned as a reason to extend him, it’s only fair to point out he was handed the keys to a Ferarri.
