While the star ratings are somewhat helpful they are also very biased.
For example, UCF top commit Keenan Hester was offered by UNC, Texas A&M, Tennessee and other P5s. After committing to UCF on 10/7, his rating dropped 151 points.

ECU's Traevon Freshwater was ranked as a 4 star with offers from 8 P5 schools. After committing to ECU on 8/6, his ranking dropped from 407 to 706.

I'm sure there are many more examples. Our current quarterback was a 4 star before picking ECU over NC State.
The rating services are a money making business and they want to keep the people with the money happy. There's nothing inherently fair or honest about it.
