I talked to John Neal on the field after the game on Tuesday night, and told him how glad I was that he was back at UAB. He said...well, not for long, and proceded to tell me he was leaving as of Wednesday to go back to Oregon. I know he was just an “analyst” the last two seasons, and not technically a coach, but I am sure he will be missed.
Did he elaborate on what opportunity is drawing him back to that state?

Grandkids and retirement. He will he missed more than people know. Coach Neal is a winner and impacted a lot of people around the program. I wish him well.

He has been a tremendous asset to our (and Oregon's) program for years. I can tell you the lure of the grandkids is a real thing. I wish him nothing but the best.

Didn't want to live in same state as Bruce Pearl.
I think in retrospect he was why the steel shield defense was so good. The coverage was stifling allowing DL to tee off. Thanks Coach for all you’ve meant to UAB
Didn't he have relatives down here over the last year or so?
I thought that was part of the reason for him coming back here.
a news page out of Oregon called the Register Guard had an article about Neal a few days ago...and Neal had something interesting to say about the shutdown...
