On the whole this year's ACC classes have been disappointing. Louisville is HURTING BIG TIME. Miami is struggling mightily. VT has actually done pretty well. Clemson is being Clemson... What about your team?
Here's a nice* summary from ACCSports.com:

* unless you're a Cardinals fan... there's just nothing nice about this year's Louisville early signing class.
The last middling class I expect from GT.

Nothing special from Syracuse. Still banking on developing low rated players that are typically bigger athletes. Some good gets but nothing tremendous imo. I'm happy though
When Fedora was let go 2 1/2 weeks ago, Carolina's recruiting ranking was in the mid 80's (13th in the ACC).
Today the Heels sit at #37 nationally (#6 in the ACC).

All of this was done in 2.5 weeks!

Mack can recruit, if nothing else.
Very pleased to be #5 in ACC recruiting at this point. Everything going in the right direction for Bronco and the Hoos.

Bronco seems to fit well at UVA - a gentleman and a recruiter, if you will. That, plus he knows how to coach.

Most Louisville fans are not up in arms. It was thankfully always going to be a small class, expected around 10-12. We had some transfers though and Satterfield's goal is to sign around 10 in February in addition to the 4 yesterday.

If you look at the the recruits who chose to go elsewhere after Petrino was fired and the several that were told they weren't a good fit by Satterfield, they ended up at Rutgers, WKU, Ohio, Southern Miss, and Georgia St. I also read that App St had 4 guys decommit after Satterfield left, and those 4 ended up at UofL, UNC, Auburn, and Miami. That says something moving forward.

Just a year ago, many closed minded folks on this board were saying how he was a failure and that he didnt spend as much time recruiting as he should.

I love our class. It's mostly a depth class, imo. We don't need a big impact from these guys but we have some really good players at the top of the class and some really good athletes that could be good in a year or two at the bottom (Camp offer kids).

Our LB class is elite on paper and these are the guys that have the best chance to earn PT. This is a very defense focused class overall. Hearing we could end up bringing in QB, RB and WR to finish off the class though. Up to this point, Cuse fans have zero reason to not trust our staff to evaluate. I'm confident.
State has a top 25 class with 8 of the top 25 from NC. 3rd in the ACC behind FSU and of course Clemson. The important thing is to get kids that fill your needs.

For the foreseeable future that's near a structural upper limit. Breaking into the top 15 is not realistic for NC State, but staying between 18-30 is realistic.

You may be right - there's an awful lot of competition for players in NC.

On the other hand, I can't help feeling that the Hokies can go much higher - which is very frustrating! With the right staff, I feel like VT can be "Clemson North" (OK, maybe not quite as good, but pretty close).

Next season will be Virginia's turn at representing the Coastal in the championship game. You are the only Coastal division school left in the current seven year rotation.

To break into the top 15 means you have to land a lot of 4 star kids and a few 5 star kids. To do that you are in direct competition with the football powers that have 80K plus football stadiums.

Out recruiting any of the following is difficult if they have even a decent coach:

Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Florida State, Notre Dame, and LSU. In fact, there is no reason for NC State, VT, GT, UVa, or UNC to EVER expect to recruit above those 10.

I don't include Texas, TAMU, USC, and Oklahoma, because their geographical footprint is so far out of our region. But what it means is VT, nor UNC, nor NC State, nor UVa, nor GT will likely EVER get a top 15 class.

Dabo at Clemson is the outlier, but even as an outlier it's built on the SoCon/ACC's most consistent football school from 1933. Clemson played in major bowls in the 30's, 40's and 50's, again in the 80's, now again in the last decade. Although maybe it's more accurate to just lump Clemson and FSU in with the first 10 I cited.

16th is a lot better than 29th. The DMV has enough great players to fund a local powerhouse team. VT can be that team.

To do that you need the cooperation of UVa, UNC, NC State, MD, and West Va. By cooperation I mean you need for 4 of those 5 to stink. I personally love the Radford, Christiansburg, Roanoke area, but for an 18 year old male it's not a happening place.

18-30 is realistic for you - that is an average of 24.

18-30 is realistic for you - that is an average of 24.
Let's look at the current top 20 for recruiting according to 24/7

1-10 - Bama, UGa, TAMU, LSU, CU, Oregon, OU, Michigan, Texas, PSU
Other than Oregon in the Pac 12, the rest of these play in a stadium that sells out and average of 102,000 seats

11-19 - Auburn, Ohio State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, FSU, Washington, UF, Stanford, MSU

Discounting the West Coast, Mississippi State is the outlier with the rest averaging a seating capacity of 91,000. MSU seats only 61,000.

Comparisons against the West Coast are semi-irrelevant. That leaves 15 in the top 19 with stadium capacity 25,000 or more beyond Lane. This year USC, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Miami are having down recruiting years.

It's like moving up in academic rankings, once you are in the top 75 or so, you move up only if others drop relative to you and there are about 20-25 schools that you can not pass at least for the next 10 or so decades.
