Thank you to this young man for everything he gave on and off the field. He truly represents "The Hard Way"
Thank you Sutton and best of luck going forward. It was a pleasure watching you play for the Huskies.
Thank YOU, Sutton Smith.

Good for him, he was fun to watch these last two years! Hope he terrorizes the NFL next.
Sutton has nothing left to prove at the college level. He's leaving as an All American and with his degree. Was a pleasure watching him these last few years, best of luck at the next level!!!
He is a top 5 all time Huskie favorite. I look forward to seeing him in the NFL!
Oh man thank goodness! That guy can play some football.

Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.
Thank you SS, well done and hat's are off to you.
Hope the Bears pick him up! He would fit in well on that defense. Kid played his heart out every game. We will miss his leadership and intensity for sure. Congrats in advance Sutton Smith!
It was a no brainer. Not much to gain by coming back for another year for him. For the fans, we would have enjoyed another year of spectacular defensive end play. But all good things must come to an end. I have no doubt he will be an extremely productive NFL player in two years. He will need a redshirt year to learn his new position but he will be awesome on special teams.
Didn't see this before posting on the other thread--sorry.

I'm bummed for me and happy for Sutton!

Best of luck at the next level to Sutton and thanks for two thrilling seasons. Also, kudos to the coaching staff for thinking outside the box and putting him in a position to excel on the defensive side of the ball.
Great player and great young man. Thank you for everything, Sutton Smith, you were unforgettable. Next man up.
Congrats to Sutton. One of the most exciting players to watch in NIU history IMO. Our defense is now in trouble next year.

Wouldn't say that. We may have the one of the best linebacking cores in our school history next year.

With a bad secondary (williams is good) and now no DEs. We are going to have issues.

I don't want to start that debate in this thread though because I don't think we will ever see a player like Sutton again at NIU with the all American status among many other accolades. Made the games this year fun to watch.

I am afraid you are right, all those times we said "So hard to rely on this defense to carry you, at some point offense has to do something. It could really get ugly without this defense to lean on." Ugly is about to rear its head next season. I think thats why you saw all these extensions get done so quick. Its a big cash out before things crash. Very much like insider trading, just not strictly illegal in this case I suppose, although some would say what Frazier is doing is criminal.

But not to stray off point, thanks for the awesome career Sutton! What a player!
Smith clearly is not replaceable, and Corcoran was also damn good. But Lorbeck was very impressive and Wynne showed a lot of promise as well. Our primary interior linemen (Kramer, LeRoy, Heflin) were as strong as we've had in a while. The starting linebackers will all be seniors and they were outstanding this year. The D-backfield will be on the younger side, but these last few games some of them got a lot of playing time which will help them going into next year. I don't think things will be dire at all next year on the defensive side of the ball. Now, the year after that? Could get a little dicey.
Excellent player for this defense past few years, always fun to watch, best of luck to the kid as he tries to take it to the next level
