12-0 UCSB after 2:18. I'd like to think Pera will teach his guys to close out with their hand up but it's been the same deal for the entire year so maybe not.
Mullins gets our first point.

12-1 UCSB 16:54 left.
Mullins with a fastbreak layup and Adams with a three make it 12-6 with 14:55 left in 1H.
Team has settled down a bit. Good to see Mullins has essentially made himself the alpha. We're a better team with him attacking and being aggressive even if that means he's turning it over a bunch.
Much better defensively after the 12-0 start. Looks like it was the necessary cold water in the face.
14-14 at the under 12 timeout.
21-16 Rice at the under 8.
UCSB scored 12 in the first 2:18, they've scored 4 in the next 9:42. Really good response. Best stretch of defense I've seen so far this year.
Thanks for the score updates. As someone who's never watching, even if I'm reading afterward, it helps understand the flow.

Did Mullins start? If not, then I'm guessing his +/- is off to a good start, but it says something about the starting rotation.

Both Mullins and Peterson started. Parrish came off the bench.

The future is bright (if they stay at Rice).
31-19 Rice with 4:20 left in half... This 31-7 run is some of the best basketball I've seen us ever play. Maybe rivaled by that UNM comeback a few years ago.
UCSB has hit a couple threes but Rice still playing well on offense.

37-27 with 1:50 left in 1st half.
Rice leads by 7 at the half. Should be more if it wasn't for terrible FT shooting by Rice and a gift of a foul on Rice on the last play of the half.
39-32 Rice at the half.

Players consistently treat refs like they're stupid, dare them to call fouls by flopping and throwing themselves into opposing players, and refs continue to prove the players right. That's an egregious call by the refs that mars what was probably the best half Rice has played under Pera.
bull**** call. Ako grabbed the UCSB guy and they didn’t call a foul but then UCSB guy takes two dribbles and leans into a player while throwing up a wild shot and call a shooting foul.

Still, this is probably one of the best defensive halves of basketball we’ve played.
I'm honestly shocked Pera didn't get a technical. If I was a coach I might've gotten two and been ejected. How you choose to reward a player for purposely throwing himself into the body of another player is beyond me.

We get HS level officiating. It’s been awful for the 10 years I’ve followed Rice basketball.
39-39. Frustrating start to the second half. Peterson with two wide-open misses and soft defense. Essentially all the hard work in the first 20 minutes gone.

Also we're 3-13 from the FT line which is mind-numbingly bad.

Wow! Those last-second 3 FTs to end the first half and the first 2:41 of the second half ... and the Owls' 10-point lead is gone. Sigh.

Start another run, Rice!!
