They are 17 years old in the age of instant social media gratification. They will get it right if they come here. It just isn’t a big deal.
That was actually a cool experiment. You are correct, a few kids wrote University of Duke...and every one of the was immediately corrected. You may also be correct that it's not a big deal but I promise it matters to a lot of people.

At least our players know they're going to William & Mary, whether College or University.

Many years ago Georgia Tech recruited and signed guard Kenny Anderson out of NY City. They had a major
media conference in Atlanta to introduce him....he was heavily recruited...and Anderson led off by saying:
"I want to tell everybody how excited I am to be coming to the University of Georgia"!

The stir in Georgia it created was something to see.
I kind of view it as the 1st recruiting test. Does the recruit pay attention? Is their attention to detail? If you aren't paying enough attention to the details in recruiting, are you going to be paying attention to the details on the field and in film study? Does it mean that you are a bad recruit or a poor fit for W&M? No, I don't think so. It just means you bombed the first test.
It tells me W&M is an afterthought, they don't truly appreciate the offer other than bragging on social media, their contact with our staff is superficial, and they didn't bother to do even the slightest research into our school before rushing to their Twitter account.

I don't recall this happening with our < '19 recruits. Twitter isn't any more popular now than it was throughout the past 5 years.

But, since we're not allowed to hold 17 yo accountable, maybe our official offers should include "The College of..."

I don't disagree with you, but to your latter point, I'm not so sure it didn't happen prior to 2019. I think it is just thrown in your face more often because they make a gazillion offers.
My question is WHY are we offering HS freshmen?
It simply degrades the significance and value of offers, much less the lack of respect by the young individual.

THIS I firmly agree with! It makes no sense.

Hook em early, maybe they stay on the line...

Also, its easier to string them along with you in 2 years when youre a coach at another school...

Seriously, when I was 16 or 17, I had little knowledge of official schools names. It is not a gross lack of attention to detail. It wasnt until actually applying that I started paying attention. Aside from the biggest schools, these kids just dont know or probably care that much about them specifically. They are excited to announce an offer and thats it. The younger recruits are still dreaming of P5. Let's be honest, for most kids, our lack of success over the last decade (you know, since they were 6 years old), doesnt place us high on their list.

My question is WHY are you questioning recruiting practices? Your point makes sense, but I can make sensible arguments to the contrary because recruiting mostly boils down to "offer and hope". Everything you do or don't do might influence the recruit positively or negatively, and all recruits don't respond the same way to the same actions. I'm wasting my time discussing this as well, but I'm at the end of my post so it's sunk cost at this point.

I mean, the simple answer is other schools are. If a kids been recruited by half a dozen schools for 3+ years, and we step in at the last minute, I doubt we get much of a look. We happen to be this kids first offer, but there's other freshmen with plenty of offers.
Just offered Nick "Yags" Yagodich, a DT/DE out of St Joes Prep in Philly.

That's something we don't see often, Tribe get a commitment from 2021 ATH MarQeese Dietz 5'11 175lb Norfolk, VA

Good looking athlete. Highly recruited (top 15 in the 757) and already with a VA Tech offer in hand. Feels nice beating out Tech, but sought after junior commitments are hard to hold. There is a lot of time to keep him happy and in the fold until the December signing period of next year.

Great start to 2021, especially if this is any indication. It could be a special class.
Alright! Welcome to the Tribe MarQeese!

Mike London has always been a strong recruiter
Junior season cut short by knee injury. Reminds me of a Kane Everson 2.0

He reminds me of Mathis.

You know, VT offered him way back in June 2018. It's fairly possible that they pulled his offer after his injury. Our sticking with him may explain his "through ups and downs" comment.

I'd say the 2nd coming of Everson or Mathis would be a nice signing
Among other offers going out, this one struck me.
Taylen Green, 6'5" 210 lb QB, Lewisville, TX

4.49 40 time for a 6'5" QB!!!

His only other listed offer is Illinois State. That'll change.

And, imagine that...a Junior from Texas who acknowledged his offer from The College of William and Mary. Even posted Tomlin's college pic.
