In the 17 complete seasons starting when northern teams joined in 2001-2002, 61 players have made a First Team. 38 made it once, 20 made it twice, and 3 made it three times. It adds up to 87 because twice there were 6 players on the First Team. The three players to make it three times were Loren Stokes in 2004-2005 through 2006-2007, Eric Maynor in 2006-2007 through 2008-2009, and Charles Jenkins in 2008-2009 through 2010-2011. All of them were Player of the Year as seniors, and Maynor and Jenkins were Player of the Year as juniors. Grant Riller was on the First Team last season. Do you think he will be on the First Team this season and next season? If Charleston plays 31 games before the CAA Tournament next season like they will this season, and they play 3 CAA Tournament and other postseason games per season, Riller has 59 games left. If he averages his season average of 21.9 for the rest of his career, he would finish with 2,553 points, which would be second in CAA history behind David Robinson's 2,669. The most points by a player since the northern teams joined is 2,513 by Jenkins.
The CAA has always had good players so naturally making 3 is difficult. Sustaining success isnt easy as players come and go in a league with strong players. You hope he stays healthy and we all get to continue to watch a very good player each night, or in most of our cases 2-3 times a year.
