According to Adam Rittenburg there is a third candidate as well. Either Louisville is posturing for contract negotiations, despite having no cash from which to guarantee a coach's salary, or Scott expressed interest and turned down the job after consulting with his family and other mentors. Louisville isn't a great job right now and they just performed terribly with what is likely the best coach in program history.

Might not be. Doesn't make sense to interview other people after Scott unless you are negotiating numbers and don't like what Scott is demanding or Scott turned them down.

My guess is Louisville wants to have the upperhand in contract negotiations. If Satterfield believes he is the only candidate or at least the clear front runner, that puts him in a position to ask for a higher salary during negotiations. If he thinks he is one of many candidates, he doesn't have that ability.

They likely made an offer with a stipulation for time to accept the offer or it expires. Scott can go back to App with the most talented roster in program history for 2019, likely be close to being ranked in the Preseason Top 25, and find another gig in 2019, should he so choose.

I currently have a good job, i'll speak with you, but another opportunity will likely come along if you aren't able to meet my demand for pay. Either match what I request or I'll decline. The Petrino situation has left them cash strapped and the Athletic Department is still reeling with the Rick Pitino situation. To me, it isn't ideal when you could have another 10 win season at App next year, bring in a 4 star running back recruit, and likely be front runner for positions with better financial viability as well as program stability.

DJ Williams (#36 running back). 3 Star by 247, picked up SEC offers recently including UGA. If he stays with App it's possible he could leap frog everyone if he comes in to work and picks up the offense. Was upgraded to 4 Star by ESPN.

5-10 210 pounds. The type of back App has been missing. Bulk him up to 225 and let him go to work. With offensive line play, skill players, and the QB situation improving. App should be able to beat UNC next season and compete with USC should Scott stick around.

Would've hoped for Houston, should Scott leave, but he chose ECU.

I remembered reading about that guy, but didnt realize he got bumped up + the SEC offers. Hes committed, but i wouldnt be surprised if the coaching **** causes him to decommit.

Never fall for the mystery candidate bit. Mystery Candidates are people who throw their name into the ring to test the waters, but want to do it without their current school knowing they might be testing the waters elsewhere, because it might effect their current job.
