I'm normally all for the kicking of downed persons, but I feel bad for JMU fans right now. Pretty rough week
It looks like it is official, Houston to ECU

They are still proclaiming Charlotte to be a step down, ECU and APP to be lateral moves at best, and taking a coaches decision to better life for himself and his family as a personal affront to JMU.

It is difficult to feel sorry for that level of arrogance. (and you guys know how much I LOVE JMU)

Hilarious!

Now that was funny.

Houston has as many wins as UNCC's HC as JMpoo has against ODU.

At JMU he was making a base salary of $375,000/yr plus "...incentive clauses and bonus pay potential."
I saw one post calling him a disloyal d*****bag.

You can't fix stupid. And for all their high mindedness they are the stupidest group of college graduates I've ever seen.
I get it, to some degree. You saw it with VCU fans that were convinced Shaka Smart was their forever coach, and in their case, as he turned down aggressive pursuit from major programs, you can see why a lot of people believed (I didn't but I'm cynical af so y'know). And while it's not reasonable to expect a coach with ambition to make a long-term home out of an FCS job, some of them thought that 10-year deal he signed last year bought them at least a little time (the ones that literally expected him to coach a minimum of 10 additional seasons, well, bless their hearts).

Calling him disloyal for tripling his salary and dramatically increasing his quality of talent, facilities, fanbase, opposition and exposure is ... laughable, to be polite. They weren't going to match or even come close to ECU, and probably not to Charlotte for that matter. Reality checks are never fun.
Houston should have waited a few days. The Liberty job is open now. Coach Gill announced his retirement. With Liberty's money, they could buy just about anyone.

Why would he go to Liberty over ECU?

MONEY. If Liberty wanted they could throw money at anyone without having to answer to anyone.

Guessing Liberty will lavish money on the job. Plus Liberty has high ambitions that the expectations haven't caught up to yet, so he can take that job and grow into it, whereas at ECU, they're going to want to get back into AAC competitiveness sooner rather than later.

I wouldn't pass on ECU for it but I can see how it'd be appealing. Plus imagine what the JMU board would look like if Houston left the Dukes for Liberty.
I shouldn't doubt them, but how much more than 1.3 mil are they going to be willing to go?
Speaking of Liberty, Hugh Freeze is allegedly on the short list. Not sure how the Liberty community would take that, but it would be a big time hire.

Seriously, how does a religious school justify hiring Hugh Freeze?

The same way they justify hiring Ian McCaw.

Hell at this point they could hire Dave Bliss and it wouldn't especially shock me.
