Nice overall night for the Big East last night.

Marquette, St. Johns and Providence all win - going 3-0. Penn State (DePaul), Wisconsin (Marquette) and Louisville (Marquette) all won last night, helping the SOS, RPI and NET for a number of our programs.
people need to stop using the RPI like it means anything. It's a dead metric. I said it on the other site and I'll say it here...

Also, conversely, Indiana(Marquette, Butler) and Illinois(Georgetown, Xavier) both lost.
So, two opponents for Marquette winning (Wisconsin and Louisville) is still bad because one opponent (Indiana) lost. Got it. Carry on.

I said on the other site(not been approved yet) for Marquette- it's pretty much meaningless. If Marquette with their schedule gets 19 wins, they are going to the tourney.

Opponents matter far more to someone like St John's. With their PUTRID OOC schedule- they need all the help they can get. Like tonight's game with Miami/Rutgers- Seton Hall has Miami. It'd be far better for the Big East to have Miami lose this game even though it'd hurt Seton Hall some because SH has the much better schedule....
so after last nights games....
St John's- moves up to 18 from 29
Marquette- moves up to 88 from 99
Providence- drops down to 122 from 115

billyjack isn't going to like that much.....

As a whole- Big East up in 2 days from 70.2 to 64.1.
so saw on other board adoraz talking about St John's and their jump up by playing UMES.... I'll pretty much repeat it here- and encourage folks to post here for a more real time conversation.... (glad I did so folks can actually see it)

I think one thing that happened to help you out was Temple got a big win at Missouri. Just looking with that- VCU- up from 51 to 43. Cal- up from 240 to 230. So that would make some difference.... Also, teams that were just ahead of you lost. Pitt/NC State come to mind.

Saw that back on Monday- the top team with no road/neutral wins was all the way down at #18. So this system definitely values those wins. Given Temple was neutral site for both VCU/Cal- that would be big...
lol, I sure called the Rutgers/Miami thing didn't I? Huge help for St John's.....
but then not so much help from VCU who got beat by 10 by Old Dominion.....
REALLY impressed by Creighton tonight. Thought this could be a trap game. But 79-61 with 8 minutes to go...
While I'm happy to see St. John's move up to 18, there's no way they've played anywhere close to being the 18th best team in the country. I still remain skeptical the committee will weigh this new rating system as heavily as some people think.

It doesn't seem like it for St John's- but how many teams have a road win against a team who hasn't lost otherwise(and tonight's win over Miami 1st time they didn't win by at least 10 points), and 2 neutral site wins- 1 of them that before tonight was also undefeated otherwise? That's a pretty decent start to the resume..... 18 seems high- but in my mind, I can kind of see it.....

I think at worst the committee will weigh this new system as much as the RPI. But more importantly, it'll also be what's used for the grouping of teams.
so after last night's games- showing also movement from Monday thru last night....
Xavier from 101 to 64
Georgetown from 76 to 80
DePaul from 78 to 69
Creighton from 36 to 35
so this week

like it or not- but Saturday is a huge day for the conference this season, no matter what anyone thinks. The conference projected to go 2-6 on Saturday by Ken Pom. Given the league already has 18 losses, 6 more would give the league 24 or already more than last year.
just a massive game tonight for Providence. Kind of game you have got to win to make the tourney...
