No.. No he's not.

He had a brief interim at Marshall when Mark Snyder got fired and there was some talk about whether he was even interested in trying to get another Head Coaching gig. He said that he was pretty well satisfied that he had his shot at the Head Coaching ranks and was not interested (or even physically able) in trying to get back into the Head Coaching ranks. And that was almost 10 years ago now...

I wish Minter nothing but the best in whatever time he's got left in his career. He's 64 and a DC for a NCAA D2 team at the moment (Florida Tech). He did his level-best here and took us as far as he could. I can find no reason to have anything but appreciation for the work he did here.

Yeah I think Rick was content after his years here to just coach defense. He was the DC at South Caroline, Notre Dame, Marshall and Kentucky after he left here and coached linebackers for the Philadelphia Eagles for three years. I am guessing if he wanted a HCing job he could have gotten it somewhere in the last decade or so.

... as tight ends coach and associate head coach.

Not bad for an intern, I don't know for someone looking to get back as a head coach. I thought Locksley was a terrible hire. This might show how limited Butch's options were that he left Bama to join the Terp ship.

Did Saban ever consider Butch for a higher position at Bama?

Butch Jones to join Maryland coaching staff.

I posted this in another thread, but I think Butch has to rehabilitate himself in the eyes of the ADs before a school takes a chance on him as a head coach. He's still a relatively young man (50)-- probably will take him another 2-3 years before he can get a HC job.

I don't know if you have some inside information but it may be he wasn't willing to take a gig in the MAC, Funbelt or some other non-P5 school. I believe he's still getting paid from Tennessee so he can bide his time if he chooses.

He can prefer whatever, but a HC job in the MAC beats the heck out of an assistant HC job at Maryland for most coaches. And if he wants to get another P5 HC job, success at a G5 is his quickest and probably only path imo. The Temple job was about the cream of the crop in terms of jobs that he could realistically be a match for at this point. In fact, he'd have been quite lucky to have gotten it in my opinion.

To be clear, I'm not defending Butch one way or the other. Whether he is qualified/worth hiring in the eyes of other programs is another question that can't be answered here. My point is we don't know what HIS MOTIVATIONS are at this point and it's all conjecture on our part. It does seem some on here (not you) are saying Butch is washed up because he couldn't take Tennessee far enough. I say hogwash. Coaches have success and failures at programs all the time. It's a brutal business and why we have a thread and articles titled Coaching Carousel.
We're hiring Miami DC Manny Diaz
"We" as in Temple, I see after I did some research. I have to start looking at who posts messages.

04-cheers
Among those believed to have interest in succeeding Diaz at UM: Tommy Tuberville, 64, who was Hurricanes defensive coordinator in 1993 and was 159-99 as a head coach at Mississippi, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati (his most recent head job, in 2016).

Retirement + Golf + Florida = Miami ........ Sounds like a good fit to me!

He has been retired for 6 years now; it might be kind of difficult to get back into the game.

Congrats.

Not a bad hire by any means. He'll surely have a nice pipeline to schools in FL.

The AAC benefits if Temple can keep up the momentum. Hopefully he sticks around for more than 2 years. 3 is bad enough, but a 2 year tenure really stinks.

Akron has hired LeBron James. He will coach in absentia, and it will be an upgrade for the Zips. Incidentally, "Zips" is an apt school nickname for that school.

Thanks. I'm excited. Hoping he's here for 3.
