Purely in wins and losses (not recruiting, facilities, etc):

What is, year in/year out acceptable? 8-5, with W in a bowl game and an East Ch'ip 1 out of three years, and an C-USA ring 1 out ouf 10? Higher? Lower?

It would depend on the year. But with 22 seniors coming off of a 5 win season, anything less than a bowl was unacceptable.

Also, it's unacceptable to give up two long TD runs to a team whose QB was no threat to pass.

Getting blown out at Liberty was unacceptable.

Losing to Charlotte and Rice was unacceptable.

We clearly underperformed this year. Next year might be ugly.
Top half finishes. Serious CUSA division contender at least every 4 years. Bowl eligible 50% of the time or better and winning half of Those.

'Preesh. This is what I was looking for.

What do the rest of you think?

Changes are past due. Acceptable standards for me for football include an APR which is annually in the top 80 percentile of the nation along with commensuarate graduatuation rates within CUSA. On the field, I expect an annual record of 8-4 with the occasional 9 plus wins. A down year for us should be 5 wins and that should occur no more than once every 10 years. I expect to go to a bowl 3 to 4 times every 5 years with one significant bow bid every 5 years. I expect 2 players drafted per year with 3 to 5 draftees once every 5 years.
I expect us to:

-Contend for, and win, C-USA titles.

-To not embarrass ourselves on the field (see Liberty) or off the field (see the Derek Wilder escapade).

-Go to a bowl game more often than not. CUSA has nine (?) bowl agreements. There is no excuse to not find a way to win six or more games and go to one.

CUSA isn’t compleatly awful but it isn’t the SEC either. We should be able to accomplish much more than we have.
Bowl game every year. Our schedule will always be easy enough for 6 wins.

Conference Championship every 4 years.

Occasionally winning against MTSU, ECU, App State, Marshall.

Never losing to Liberty, UNCC or Rice tier schools. Let alone all three in one year and by a 40+ point margin to Liberty.

Who am I missing? Where are our guaranteed six wins?

ETA:
Also, anytime you use always and never you are setting yourself up for disappointment, no matter the subject.

Ask VT about never losing to a 'lesser team.
And about winning the championship every 4 years is something of a pipe dream. Again, ask VT about that, too.

Looks like a 2 or 3 win season.

Sorry, but I disregarding your statement because to accomplish wins and losses it starts with recruiting. I hope you understand that.

You're also pretty bad with the English language.

One could argue any one of a thousand things would have a direct impact on wins and losses, and that wouldn't be incorrect. But the conversation was directed as it was so as not to end up down the famous Lions Den rabbit hole, and instead focus on the level of success required to make the majority of fans happy.
This board and every board is full of poor grammar and use of the English language. Back to the topic....What do you see as acceptable from a Football team performance perspective ? I want to see more wins than loses each year with some of those wins coming against decent programs from other P5 and G5 conferences. If we are doing that Championships will happen and so will Bowl wins.
Acceptable is the last game of the year being meaningful.

So 7-5 with no other qualification? Interesting.

Like I said ...if we are winning more games than losing and beating decent teams ...Championships and Bowl wins will take care of themselves.
What do you find acceptable ?

CUSA is impossible to predict. See: FAU, WKU, Marshall the last three years.

MTSU is the only consistent team in the conference. It isn't asking too much to be on their level.

News flash: we are a nascent program who were never expected to make it out of the fcs - much to the chagrin of b&m and jmu. The fact that we are playing at the FBS level and beat VT this year is as close to a miracle as you will ever witness. I’m very much pleased by where we are and what awaits in the future. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Then I'm confused as I thought you said the schedule would always be easy enough for 6 wins.
