Seemed like a nice guy. Started off decent with 3 bowls before the bottom fell out (1-11) in year 4.

Remember when the Chippewas won 3-of-4 conference titles and had an awesome atmosphere?

Vacancies at Doyt Perry and Kelly Shorts this winter.
I would disagree about the "nice guy" bit. He refused to vote WMU in the top 25 during our undefeated 2016 season.

He's a meathead.
I feel like a lot of people suspected that CMU would fall off a cliff the last few seasons, it was just that this was the one where it actually happened. Hope the Chips find a decent replacement.
Another Jinks type hire where he had questionable pedigree to be leading an FBS program.

This is a big win for Creighton's program at EMU where they can take advantage of CMU rebuilding and string a few winning seasons together.
Agreed about Eastern. Tim Lester will probably suffer a similar bottom-falling-out type of year once Fleck's guys are all gone.

My pick for Central would be the head coach at Davidson. Scott Abell. Winning record in D3, turned around Davidson football in one season. Led the FCS with 442 yards rushing per game. Can't argue with the scheme.
Reading this thread:

Seems a few coaches, Coach B @CMU and Lester @WMU are benefiting from the recruiting done by their predecessors.

By year 3 a new coach will have had to make his recruiting mark or the team may regress.

Coach B is out. The jury is out on Lester, I'd think.

I have no idea if a school like EMU with 7 wins plus construction on a 20M student athlete performance center in the north endzone will pick up the pieces left by the meltdown in Mt. P.

BTW, page 18 shows the new performance center NOW under construction at EMU.

Lester has two recruiting classes that are outstanding..1 or 2 last year and number 1 this year if one follows 24/7 recruiting.....In fact Lester's first full class had a higher % per player than any of Flecks teams...

It is mostly wishful thinking that Western will tank......We were 6-2 the last two years when Wassink got hurt.....This year Eleby Fr. QB led us to a win over NIU to close out the season...

I disagree. You're not following WMU very well to make such an assessment. Lester's getting recruits just fine. The real issue is getting everything rolling. The NIU win was a boost at the end of the season. A bowl win would put WMU in a driver's seat.
WMU is recruiting well but so is the entire MAC.

3 star recruits currently listed by 24/7 Sports

WMU 13 (one 4 star)
Miami 13
Toledo 13
Ohio 12
CMU 10
NIU 9
Kent 7
EMU 6
Ball 6
Buffalo 5
Akron 5
BG 2

Prior to MACtion I can remember when most MAC schools only picked up 2 or 3 guys that were 3 stars. The top classes had 4 to 5 of them. The MAC is recruiting better than the MWC these days.

Boise St. 10 (2 4 stars)
Utah St. 10
SDSU 8
UNLV 8
Nevada 7
SJSU 6
Fresno 5
Air Force 4
Colorado St. 3
Wyoming 3
Hawaii 3
New Mexico 1

Some of this stuff we've been seeing like EMU going head to head with the MWC and competing well isn't a fluke. They really have the talent level to match up against the MWC.

Akron's win over NW wasn't a fluke either. They have as much talent as what the good teams in the MAC 10 years ago had.

The AAC is still slightly ahead of the MAC in recruiting. That should be the target for the MAC. Still their top class is #53 (SMU) while the MAC's is #60 (WMU)

Temple 20
ECU 19
UCF 17
USF 17
SMU 16
Cincy 15
Memphis 15
Houston 13 (one 4 star)
Tulane 6
Tulsa 6
UConn 5
Navy 2
Well boys, here's the 2018 class according to 24/7...Toledo and Western did exceptionally well...

https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Footba...erence=MAC

In 2017 we still earned a 3rd. place position even after Fleck poached 8 recruits to Minny...
https://247sports.com/Season/2017-Footba...erence=MAC

And were solidly locked in the top spot for 2019....subject to change of course..

https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Footba...erence=MAC

The long and short of it is simple....Lester's not having a fall off....
MAC recruiting has shot up ever since the CFP deal was signed. Proof also the midweek games are helping recruiting.

Some of the other changes in the NCAA like APR rules have favored the MAC.
Excuse me this is a CMU thread lol
Pretty quiet on replacement names. Cale Gundy has been mentioned, Tony annese Ferris st, Tyrone Heatley, former Akron qb gets.
We had a solid recruiting class but they are starting to recommit. Expected.
Year four and bono went 1 and 11 can't happen this far into his tenure. Students alumni gave up, attendance was p putrid, it had to be done.

CMU has plans also for an end zone facility just approved by trustees, plans are pretty impressive.

We need a home run hire through been a tough 10 yrs!

WMU has a great future. They will be the power in the West for at least the next 5 yrs.

Loaded on offense for sure at every position. Don't know who should be more embarrassed for losing the West, WMU or Toledo.

Meh. WMU lost the west after losing their QB. Toledo was replacing their QB this year so a hiccup there is not surprising.
Butch Jones or Brady Hoke would be nice. I'm hearing Tony Annese and the OC from Oklahoma.

The most realistic option to me is Tony Annese.

This is the truly upsetting part in losing a coach..Too bad..
From the WMU boards:

CMU posted the head coaching job on Indeed. https://www.indeed.com/m/viewjob?jk=762c...&from=serp

Very sad, I think. It might be a formal way to apply, but isn't Indeed pretty casual? Maybe it's just a way to get the word out? Who knows.

This is about as bad as:
1.) BGSU just Googling a coach
and
2.) WMU just hiring an alum

Our offense was good enough to win the MAC, and Wassink for sure was a game changer, but our defense was putrid. If our D steps up even a little bit, we should be gold next year.

I just applied.

If selected I will eclipse Herb Deromedi's 110 MAC wins and 3 MAC Championships.

I will never leave for a P5 job after winning the MAC.

What is DHR International? Is this one of those goofy coaching search firms who pretend to know what they’re doing?
CMU is getting ripped on social media for posting its head coaching job on Indeed. I have no idea why they would do that, but it's an embarrassing look for that school & program.
