If they are and coming to Bartow then Blazer fans will see the #1 rated recruit in the country. Penny Hardaway signed James Wiseman over Calipari and Kentucky. Cal had thrown everything he had at him. He has now lost at least two players to Penny
I hope so. If Penny can coach at all, I expect the Tigers to be back to being a Top 10 team, and soon.
I’m guessing they will be top 5 preseason next year with what he has brought in for next year. Getting that team early in Bartow next year could be hige
If we play down in Birmingham next year I'm definitely making that trip.

I still think it's idiotic that we don't play every year, as a tribute to Gene. It's a no-brainer.

I agree.
Yes. This year's game is the first of a two year home and home.
Just me, but I don’t care to continue playing them or AU. Doesn’t benefit us to get whipped by them and have our top priorities go play for them as walkons or backups.
Games like this are important. Fans like to see it. Players like to play in it. We aren’t at our peak currently but you don’t get better by crushing a bunch of no name teams. We need the exposure and the challenge. This is part of the reason I’m pleased with the games this year with FSU, AU, and Memphis. May not win any of those games, but at the end of the day I think we are better for playing in those games.

I couldn't agree more...playing quality opponents makes our team better, offers exposure and gets fans more excited about attending games

For the record we did not get whipped by Memphis last year. We whipped them. And a
Though Auburn has won recent games, they have not whipped us.

Yes, Boyce decided to go play for his high school coach once that coach got a college job. The #1 player in the country just chose to do too.
the only thing fans see is 5 losses in a row to AU and 1 of 16 vs Memphis which was in a season bad enough to get Tubby Smith fired.

It’s not just Boyce. Jamal Johnson, Ricky Tarrant, Daniel Purifoy, TJ Lang, Chuma Okeke. We had heavy interest in each of them, real late when they made their final moves.

we all wanted these series renewed but they couldn’t have come at a worse possible time. Especially if we need a good perception, since we are at all of the same prospect camps recruiting against them. They don’t even have to land kids to negatively affect us.
So we shouldn’t play good teams or re ruin good players that might go to good schools. Got it.
Apparently not. We don’t play good teams. We just say let’s join a tournament on thanksgiving, it’ll give us a good vacation. Go 0 for 3, then have a schedule full of swac, asun bottom dwellers or d2 schools to keep us above .500 in spite of how poorly we play in conference play.

Do like MTSU does. Go set up a series with Belmont, Davidson, Murray state, Wichita state, FGCU, VCU, Akron, Kent state, Saint Louis, George Mason.

who have we beaten since Iowa State?

Shouldn’t recruit players that might go to good schools? We can’t. We can’t pay them and then still play them like AU. Nor can we compete with the lack of facilities we have. The guys we make our top priority, we can’t even convince to make an Official visit. Look at the last 2 classes we’ve signed, and I bet half of them never took an OV to UAB before we signed them. They had no choice but to sign here.
Nvm, hadn't read the whole thread.

Not playing Memphis and Auburn is crazy talk. Play them AND Belmont, Murray State, etc etc.

Work hard where we are and KEEP LOOKING UP.

No, that's what you see. True fans see amazing game atmosphere, huge student involvement, national exposure, recruiting opportunities, and usually very exciting games, not to mention a better product to watch for the price of season tickets. Does it sting to lose by 3-4 against a really good team, yes. But, does anyone remember beating West Alabama by 30 a week after it happens? No. And neither does the selection committee in March.

Perfect response.
Never said we shouldn’t play Memphis, just that I didnt care too. It should be a conference game. Even in nonconference, I think we should be playing them in late Jan or mid Feb much like they used to do with Tennessee, If i remember correctly. I don’t like that so much importance is put on the outcome of the Memphis or AU games that it affects whether our “true” fans show up for the West Alabama type games. There’s too much of an imbalance between our weakest to toughest opponents.

Our toughest opponents being in the T-giving tournament, a single away game and BJCC game. The rest of it is a poo schedule and there’s no chance to have a decent resume because you’re so worried about finding wins in scheduling rather than having a respectable SOS.
I hate losing to Auburn too...like really hate it. But it's hard to argue with a sold-out crowd in Bartow -- and we charged almost double for tickets that game.

Totally agree with you on the opening tournament. I don't even watch anymore because of how we roll over in those to subpar big conference teams.
Wow. You guys complain when we play cupcakes and you complain when we play good teams.
