Nice. I like the height.
Decatur advanced to the 4A state final earlier today. Ridge Point just advanced to tomorrow's 6A state finals.

Quote:Graduate transfer Tabitha Brown (Wichita State) and freshman Jaime Samojedny (Aurora, Ill.) complete a five-person signing class for the Owls, which also includes Ellie Bichelmeyer, Maddie Fowler, and Satasha Kostelecky.

Brown, a 5'10" outside hitter from Houston, played and started in all 32 matches and 126 sets for WSU in 2018. In her senior season, Brown posted a team-best 368 kills to go along with 326 digs. She tied the WSU single-match record with 28 kills in a match vs. Cincinnati and recorded a team-best 11 double-doubles on the season.

Samojedny, a 5'8" libero/DS from Naperville and Aurora, Ill., will graduate from Metea Valley High School after breaking the school's single-season digs record as a senior and earning team MVP honors. Samojedny totaled 382 digs her senior campaign and 650 for her career to go along with 119 assists. She helped guide the Mustangs to back-to-back Willowbrook Tournament titles and an undefeated conference championship in her junior season.

I think an All-Wise blocker is just what we need.
Wow, Brown is a major addition looking through her stats (she was 1st team all-AAC as a junior in 2017 when her team made it to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament, and also honorable mention all-America). Her other two years at Wichita were impressive too (they also made the NCAA's in 2016) - she should be an immediate starter at Rice. The odd thing though is she has played four years of collegiate volleyball already (she played her freshman year at Alabama - but just half of that season so I guess they are getting a redshirt season for her?).

I'm thinking we'll have two top-25 teams most of next year on the women's side - both volleyball and basketball.

Article (from January) on Brown's transfer. She did get hurt at Alabama her freshman year.

Wow, reading some more on Brown. I was her mom's volleyball SID at UH 33 years ago when I first came to the city just out of college at UCLA. I remember her mom well. She's now a minister/author/motivational speaker (and volleyball coach) in Houston. Glad to see someone hasn't aged a day (can't say the same about me).

My daughter played club VB for Coach Brown with Tabitha at Willowbrook in their Jr. High years. Tabitha is a vey talented young lady from a great family.

Welcome to Rice!
Really great job by the coaching staff. The transfer phenomena has really help women sports at Rice. I wonder if soccer will start looking at transfers with the new coaching staff.
