Wow...always liked mike but last few years not so good and with Legion starting up the sport will have a bit more visibility.
Probably needed a change, but still sad. I had a lot of fun watching those teams while I was in college.
I want to say how much I appreciate everything Coach Getman has done for UAB soccer and for the sport in our city and state. I remember going to UAB games in the 80's. The games were fun but the product on the field was poor. Coach Getman came in and built mens soccer into a force to be reckoned with, a source of pride when at times there weren't many for Blazer fans.

Thanks Coach G, for everything.
Not terribly surprising. Mike had done an incredible job for the first 2 decades but the last few years have been average at best.
Doesn’t he need 30 years to get his state pension or is he already qualified
I think it also shows the level of expectation in the department now
wow
Record last 4 seasons

2015 5-11-0 2-6-0
2016 7-10-4 2-5-1
2017 5-7-4 1-6-1
2018 6-9-3 2-5-1
Sucks for Mike cause he's a good guy, and it would have been nice to see what he could do with the new facilities and partnership with our second fight pro team, but its a results oriented business and the past few years have been brutal.

He's been in the system long enough he's under the old plan. He can draw from his pension at age 60 after 10 years of service or after 25 years of service at any age.

The "new" criteria went into effect for anyone who started employment as of Jan 1 2013. They can only draw retirement after 10 years of service at age 62. The retire at any age after 25 years is gone.

Contributions can be withdrawn and rolled over into a 401(k) (albeit with no interest or growth if withdrawn before 8 years of service) or transferred to another state (which will generally give credit for the years served in Alabama, too), so the idea that retirement is going to keep Clark around is a little bit of a pipe dream

last edit, and last off topic piece: that puts Clark at 19-20 years in the Alabama TRS since he became head coach at Prattville, could be even more if he was teaching/assistant coach prior.

It is 25 years in Alabama.

A member is eligible to receive retirement
benefits under either of the following conditions:
♦♦ He or she has at least 10 years of service
credit and has attained the age of 60
Or
♦♦ After accumulating 25 years of service
credit at any age.
Well at least he’s got his pension.
As mentioned, I think this speaks to the changing mentality in the athletic department. Not that I agree with Watts or Ingram on past actions, but I do think there is a desire to be a championship contender rather than simply putting warm bodies on the field or on the court. That’s a mentality I think we can all get behind. Getman did great things for UAB during his time here, but sometimes a fresh start is needed. With the new facilities, now is as good a time as any.
When my son was 7, UAB competed to make the soccer NCAA’s, and even hosted a round or two. Now my grandson is 7, and the men’s soccer program struggles to compete in regular season games. Mike had a great run, but with the investments in soccer facilities - something had to give.
Brian Shoop has been put on notice.
The Bartow Effect. Getman was a true Blazer and took the program to places they have never before been, Cheers to a Great Blazer.
So taking all of the Ingram factor & scooting it aside, what would Getman have to do as a coach to be dismissed by a normal AD?

4 straight losing seasons, despite increasing funding and facility upgrades, would be a good start
Didn’t Ingram want to hire his own football coach shortly after reinstatement?

As far as Bartow hires go. It is 2018, how long has it been since he was AD? it’s sad to see that connection go and many of those particular coaches stood for something so right at the most trying times for UAB. However, it’s time to start winning and Ingram deserves to be able to make the moves necessary if there’s no signs of success or progress 3-4 years into his job.

Norton was on the hot seat in my mind, going into last season. Don’t think we have anything to worry about there any more.

Townsend had 2-3 straight losing seasons and then her interim replacement followed it up with another. Ingram made a great hire as far as we can tell. we’ll see.

women’s soccer. hired a hottie and she had the most successful season in program history as far as I know of in year one. Didn’t even know we had women’s soccer.

Now, soccer. 4 straight losing seasons, man. How do you defend that? The move was long overdue. Bring in somebody young and energetic to capitalize on the new facility.

Baseball- again, 3-4 losing seasons in a row. you can’t defend it. Now, you add somefacilities. What can he do with them?

It’s not about just a winning record in basketball. We want to freaking compete. This program has fallen so far. We should be owning this league once Memphis moved on. Got real close to blowing the game tonight. Conference games or not, Losing to Utsa, Rice, NT, Marshall, USM, the F_Us is not acceptable. Nor the furman’s of the world. I don’t see us letting go of E before he’s got one yr left on his contract if we keep getting the same mediocre seasons in which we arent even in play for the NIT. You can bet your butt once we start the funding for the basketball facility that Ingram will want a replacement if things stay in the direction they are.
