Samford Message Board
ETSU is a 10 point underdog. The disrespect continues.
Samford lost to Mercer, Chattanooga, and the Citadel, all of whom the Bucs have beaten. Further, the Bucs beat the Citadel AT the Citadel, and Samford just lost to the Citadel decisively. Plus, ETSU is playing at home. The line makes absolutely no sense. I don't think they pay much attention when setting the lines for the FCS.

Hope this makes them angry and focused. Hope they hit the field Saturday angry and focused. Hope they play four angry, focused quarters of football and hold the trophy high afterwards.

Incidentally —- “Bucs Football and Friends Foundation”, must be a number of these folks still around and enjoying this. Maybe I missed it, have they been honored in anyway since the restart of football?

The people who set the line aren't predicting who will win or by how much. Their only goal is to determine the point where half of the bettors will bet one way and the other half will bet the other way. As such, it is the betting public who doesn't respect the Bucs.

Those who set the lines are usually very good at their job (getting the bets to split evenly, not predicting the score). When they miss their mark, the betting line moves dramatically from its starting point. It will be interesting to see if that happens in this case, and if it moves toward the Bucs, it will mean at least some of the public is catching on.
Just unbelievable that this team has already won 8 games and has a chance at 9. This kind of season puts them in rarefied air at ETSU, and I'm loving it, but my favorite part is that we're bringing 14 starters back next year. This team has continuity going forward and room to get better and deeper. That's exciting.

Looking at the way the bubble shaped up last week, I think we're probably safe even if we lose. There just aren't many good resumes left waiting to be put in the field. But sharing sucks, and I want a title.

As for Samford, I don't think this is a great matchup for us. So much of what they do revolves around speed on offense and defense, and the best way to beat a team like that is to grind them down with physical play. That's not really our forté. But we've also had two weeks to scheme up their best players and install wrinkles in our offense and defense to shut them down. I expect to see us in nickel a lot, and I really hope they have something in mind to contain or slow down McKnight in the vertical game. He will eat us alive if we let him run down the seams in zone coverage or get him matched up with a backer or safety 1-on-1.

When we have the ball, I want to see the backs chip Gooden as much as possible. Get into 12 and 22 personnel sets and beat the snot out of these speedy pass rushers with Wick, Hill, and anyone else who can lay a body on them. This D-line has talent, but it's not deep; beat them up and see if they still have the juice to come after Herink in the fourth quarter.

I expect us to be in the game late - Sagarin's "Recent" metric favors us by 1.5 even though Samford is much higher in the actual ratings - and I have faith we can close it out at home once we get to Q4. But don't let this team with nothing left to play for beat us with their best players. Make Hatcher & Co. coach and make adjustments.
Most of us agree that we have the best defensive coordinator in the conference. He has had two weeks to prepare for this offense. I think we can at least slow their offense down. The question is whether we can score enough points. I hope that we let Herink throw the football downfield more than we usually do. We have shown the ability to do that, but we have too many screen passes or very short patterns. Looking forward to the game!
I spoke to David Jackson today. He is very excited about broadcasting the game on Saturday. And he will be available the following Saturday should we get a home playoff game.
Just go out and win the damn game. It's time to shut the doubters up. Question is, does Randy Sanders take a one and done approach if the phone rings for a Power 5 OC job, that would pay more money.

Hasn't he already been there, done that, got the t-shirt?

I agree. He could’ve moved to that position at another school instead of coming here. He wanted to be a head coach and probably won’t leave except for another head coaching position. We may end up having to do him like we did Forbes. But can our athletic department handle two of those type deals at the same time?
I can only hope Randy stays for a long, long time. 03-old
Its sounding like we will have Nasir Player back for this game. Great news

Yes! What a great one-two punch he and Jason Are!
You could tell a difference in the pass rush against Mercer. We weren't getting in the backfield nearly as much. When Nasir plays, you have to double team him. He is HUGE.

He's arguably the best player in the league.

Secretly hoping he'll be our Terrell Owens

Pretty sure Torbush said he had pro potential, and that was before he grew an inch.
Pretty freaking sad that we might not sell out this game.
