I hate to pile on the lowly owls but early in this season hope was for this Rice team to at least compete. After the complete blow out at the hands of USM, I happened to read this article in the Houston Paper.

Talk about a screwed view of a football team and this is it. Rice seems to see themselves as superior to most teams in CUSA and what is it based on is my question? The bottom line is year in and year out Rice sucks.
Finally, a real Death Spiral!

Ha! Can't be a spiral since we don't have anyone who can throw one!
There is too much emphasis being put on 'climb back into the game' for early season games. There are a lot of players who now get to play as true freshman who never would have played prior to this season.
Isn't Rice kind of like road kill at this point? A spiral implies impending doom. Rice seems to already be there.
We were already on the operating table waiting for surgery before "Marathon Joe" got to Rice from Stanford. Marathon Joe has since totally messed up the surgery and we are on life support.

He's god-awful. Took way, way too long to fire Bailiff and as a result, Bloomgren was left with a roster bereft of even FCS-level talent. As a result, the entire left side of offensive line (C, LG, LT) are freshmen, our QB is a freshman, our TE is a freshman, a linebacker is freshman, two safeties are freshmen, etc, etc.

He hired one good basketball coach but then took the easy road and one of his assistants when he bolted at the first sniff of success. That assistant essentially got where he is today by coaching James Harden in high school.

Then, he butchered our baseball situation to the point that nobody was happy, even the ones who wanted Graham gone.

But hey!! Our Volleyball team is great.

Oh, one last thing, Marathon Joe has even managed to mess up the one we typically good at, academics! Our football APR is middling and far below our peer institutions.

To be fair to Pera he won a PA state championship before he won the California one with Harden. I’d say Harden helped facilitate his move to the college level at ASU but he went to the Ivy League before becoming the senior assistant on the most successful Rice basketball team in a decade. Hard to fault an AD from promoting a senior assistant to keep the ball rolling. I blame Rhoades for convincing 4 guys to leave the program (2 to follow him to VCU).

I’m more concerned with the football and baseball handling so far. Also his inability to make any inroads with all of the Rice community that dislike athletics. He’s pretty much nonexistent unless you catch a glimpse of him talking to a big donor.
Rice has no bussiness playing Hous, WF, LSU or Hawaii for that matter
play 4 fcs if you have to start building fb program
they certainly have the money

Yeah, that'll be great for recruiting. A schedule full of FCS opponents.

...and Temple has no business playing those teams either, or being in the AAC, so what? Decent basketball...your claim to fame is alumni Bill Cosby...while football has been in a funk for years (your overall record is 466-584)..

Tell you what, we'll take your place in football and baseball, and we'll let you keep your basketball affiliation---and Bill Cosby!!!!!03-lmfao
and you have no bussiness talking to me like that
who in the hell do you think you are
if can not act like adult, don't respond to me
btw, you still typing with 1 finger
when you buy pair shoes, get back to me

...and I have no hands, how can you talk to ME like that? I have to type with my nose!
A Temple fan showing up saying Rice needs to schedule 4 FCS teams and then doesn't expect some backlash. Temple academics must really be slipping these days.

If you expect people to act like adults you don’t need to be here

Admittedly, I am not on the boards much in the Spring time, so I’m sure I missed a lot of discussion about it. But did Rice want Graham gone? Kind of shocked by that since he was such a legend there.

That's a start to rebuilding a football program. 04-cheers

That added "shoes" response was so clever....since I guess you think I live in poor ol' Mississippi. 03-lmfao

Actually, I live in Florida, where they sell shoes....so I look at a lot of them in storefront windows...and when you guys actually beat somebody in football, get back to ME.
i don't think you have TV either
yes I think college educated men should act like adult
you would think arrogance is required coarse
btw, never went to college

Haha I admit I chuckled.

In all seriousness, it is curious that we have been so bad when schools like Duke, Northwestern, BC, Stanford, GT, etc, etc. all have had some success in football yet have maintained significantly higher APRs. Whereas we have been bad at both.

Big draws at the gate, too. Let's trade Houston for SELA and see how many people show up. Drop Texas next year for Stephen F Austin, too.
