He has several good lines here concerning the Tigers:

He coined a term that I hope will gain widespread usage in CBB: Major7 (as opposed to Power5 in CFB)

He predicted Wiseman signing with Memphis turns our program into a major national recruiting force (along with Nova) to compete with Duke, Kentucky, and a few others.

Not as high on our tournament chances as Katz. Read for more info.

"21. James Wiseman will verbally commit to Hardaway and Memphis over Calipari and Kentucky. Wiseman will provide one of the biggest headlines of the season -- and do so despite not being a college player. This will also bring in a new level of interest and intrigue in recruiting power nationally. Kentucky and Duke will be joined by Memphis, and don't forget that Arizona hasn't lost all its pull -- and Villanova's entered the room too. "
We have received great national basketball exposure in the past few days and an attendance thread trumps by far both of these threads of good publicity (which Penny is working his ass off to get) in replies and views.

I think that says a lot about what truly interests this forum. I know there is a split in BB/FB but that still leaves a majority of the forum to peruse basketball related EXTERNAL (not a members post) opinions and predictions from national writers which I find more interesting and accurate.
Again, it is not Penny's job to build attendance. He is the basketball coach...not the attendance manager. The U of M needs to have ONE PERSON who is responsibie for generating maximum attendance to all sporting events. Those people exist but...until the U of M recognizes the need...that person will never be on the staff. It is a money making proposition. That person will be paid far less than the positive financial impact they make to the athletic program.

You are woefully misinformed about the practical aspects of basketball attendance. Since the advent of the one and done and early entry to the draft, most good program’s fans need a roster to recognize the players. College basketball has become a coaches games.

More times than not, when you see a tv promo for Duke vs KY it will shoe Coach K and Cal, not ant players that casual fans across the country don’t have a clue as to who this young player is. Same with Memphis: Penny will be in the promo with the opposing teams coach most of the time. CBS, ESPN, Etc know what drives college basketball right now.

It seems we have sold between 11-12K of season tickets to date with virtually no high expense advertising such as TV or even billboards that I have seen.

I think you are referring to a person who should be in charge of game experience: from running promos to sell more tickets (especially packs or single games), in game entertainment, giveaways and activities for kids and even families who are casual fans, and safety, parking and all the things a fan comes into contact with attending a game.

I think this is a long term thing that builds your brand, brings casual fans back and sells a somewhat limited amount of tickets. IMHO

Penny agreed to it being his job to sell tickets that is why he has big incentives in his contract for attendance.

Why else would he slow that in his contract if he felt it wasn't his job.
Is there anything that prevents Penny from paying/staffing a PR person himself? 75k could go a long way......
