From September to October, NBA teams trim their rosters from a maximum of 20 players invited to training camp to 15 on opening night. The “affiliate player rule” allows them to retain up to four of the players that they waive, while an additional two rosters spots are now available for Two-Way Contracts.

Players designated by an NBA team as affiliate players are automatically allocated to that team’s NBA G League affiliate if they choose to sign an NBA G League contract. Affiliate players remain free agents available for any of the 30 NBA teams to sign.

UAB plays at Memphis Tigers Saturday December 8
The Iowa Wolves play at the Memphis Hustle, The Grizzlies G league team, in Southaven Mississippi on December 7.

How awesome would it be if a bunch of UAB fans showed up to watch Lee play on Friday before the Memphis UAB game.
He was somewhere in Eastern Europe before this. I think it was Serbia or Bosnia.

I don't think he ever made it to the team overseas. Typically players sign overseas with the understanding that if an NBA (or similar) opportunity comes they can get out of the contract. Lee had been invited to the Minnesota Timberwolves camp late in the preseason and was waived pretty soon afterwards(within a couple of hours). There was talk he might sign a two-way contract with the Timberwolves, but I guess the "affiliate" label is what he got. I suspect that's what happened here(contract out). I also wouldn't be surprised if that particular overseas opportunity closed as Lee awaited out the NBA decision.
I follow him on Instagram. He was in Serbia and Bosnia for several weeks at least. Not sure if he signed with the team formally, but he was definitely there.
looks like ive got some G league games to attend

At least he landed in a spot where Nick Norton can show him around
