For BC it's only been a few weeks, but for UVA and SU it's been... a while.

It is the first time the Cavaliers have been ranked in the AP Poll since Nov. 20, 2011 when UVA came in at No. 24.

The Orange are ranked in both polls, including their first AP Poll appearance since the 2001 season.
The ACC Wheel of Destiny will soon kneecap Cavman. It's the #GoACC way.

Clearly BC, Cuse and UVA got zero consideration in the preseason, and it took them until now just to crack the top 25 (except for BC, briefly). They've earned it. I think they are ranked about right - in the 20 to 25 range.
The AJC today published a piece on how it's remarkably plausible GT could win the Coastal at 5-3. It's pretty bad when one game above .500 might very realistically win the division. And without any "self-imposed postseason ban" malarkey ... a straight up victory.

It is already very disorienting for us UVa fans to process being ranked, being first in the division with control over our own destiny, going to a bowl two years in a row, but then having a Hokie fan actually kind-of defend our accomplishments so far, is too much. The room is spinning right now. I may need some help to get through this confusing period.

Yeah, it makes me feel uncomfortable (and a little dirty) too. Somebody needs to beat you guys so things can get back to normal...

Congrats to all of the ACC teams in the Top 25. 04-cheers
Congrats to Syracuse for a good win on Saturday. Had our offensive linemen not whiffed his block, I suspect what would have happened was a NC State TD, followed by a Dungy drive that produced a TD drive over about 90 seconds. People are blaming a Clemson hangover for our failure to show up in the first quarter, but that's not the reason. Don't know the reason but it could be the bowl situation with the ACC this year.
I see the CFP was even more generous to the ACC:
2 Clemson
19 Syracuse
21 NC State
22 Boston College
25 Virginia

Nice. And the entirely useless factoid that accompanies the above is that with this ranking every single ACC program has made the 26 CFP's Top 25 rankings so far at least once. Wake is the lone exception.

Of course SU, BC, and UVA just made it for the first time with this ranking, so I am sure the Deacons will do so in the next couple of years. It's what makes the ACC both frustrating and fun to be a part of.

Look at the B1G, five of their 14 members have never made a CFP ranking so far - Purdue, Indiana, Illini, Maryland, and Rutgers. I will be surprised if they have two from that grouping break the Top 25 over the next couple of years.

But of the 9 programs that have made it only Minnesota (with 4 appearances) has less than 8 appearances.

Cheers,
Neil
