D'Eriq King's 7 TD game yesterday (5 TD passing, 2 TD rushing) tied an AAC record for single game TD's Responsible. Others on that list are Paxton Lynch (twice), Riley Ferguson (twice) and Garret Gilbert. Not sure any of the others came against a ranked team (opponents were BYU, SMU, BGSU, UConn and Rutgers).

Also -- King is now #4 on the AAC Single-Season TD's Responsible list (with at least 5, possibly 6 games to go):

45 M. Milton, UCF, 2017 (8 rush, 37 pass)
44 R. Ferguson, Memphis, 2017 (6 rush, 38 pass)
42 Q. Flowers, USF, 2016 (18 rush, 24 pass)
39 D. King, Houston, 2018 (11 rush, 28 pass)

I believe King can get 7 more TD's this season to break the record.

He's in sight of both the UH and NCAA single-season records:

UH Record = 55 TD's, David Klinger 1990 (11 games = 5 TD/game)
NCAA Record = 63 TD's, Colt Brennan 2006 Hawaii (14 games = 4.5 TD/game)

D'Eriq King is currently averaging 4.9 TD/game. If he keeps that up, that works out to 63 TD's over a 13-game schedule or 68 TD's over a 14-game schedule.

Of course there's a long way to go and nothing is a given in football. But King's had one hell of a season so far. The rest of the country is just waking up to what he's been doing all year.

Is D'Eriq King, when he finishes, going to be considered better than Greg Ward?
Don't forget he's also top of the leader-board when it comes to number of apostrophes in a first name.

if he gets to a new years 6, and wins ...yes

if not ? no

king this season is the statistically greatest season by a aac qb..but stats always gets trumped by team accomplishments
Here's another way of asking... Who do you want at QB with the game on the line, last play of the game?

I don't know the answer because Ward and King are probably the two best I've seen at QB at winning games. That includes Keenum. Ward and King refuse to lose.

Ward because he's proven he can win the one that matters most.

I would take King. Much better arm, and their legs are a push.

wards legs are far better than kings....their speed is similar but king isnt remotely as shifty

i think king is better overall qb...but if the game is on the line, im taking ward and its not close

we've been blowing teams out, so we've never really been in a "must score late" much with king...but there have been 3
the 4 and 24 was mostly luck....beyond that 1 drive, there have been 2 other drives (tulane, fresno) both were complete disasters

i can name atleast 7 "must score late" with greg, where the systematically took us down the field and scored (not luck on his part)..and 3 others where he got us all the way to the goal line and just fell short (like the ucf fumble into the endzone, which was luck on ucf ends)

if you look at their skillsets it makes sense..king is deadly acccurate with the dead ball, especially on single coverage (you wont get that in prevent defense)..a but shakey on the medium stuff

ward was elite at medium passes, and shifty enough to make something out of nothing... (those are available in prevent)
King is still getting better and could very well end up better than Ward. Ward's size (lack thereof) caused him to have a lot of injury problems. I winced every time he would go down on his shoulder.

Not as shifty? Bruh..
are you forgetting who Greg Ward is??????

that was 1 play

there is a play in that same usf game of usfs qb shaking stuard to another dimension..and no usfs qb isnt shiffy as ward because of that 1play

no one is saying king isnt shifty...anyone comparing him remotely close to ward has short term memory loss....

ward was just on another level
You're probably right. I still think King is getting better and hasn't yet peaked. King also has the benefit of more pure athletes surrounding him. Stevenson, Smith, Car, Carr, Williams, Lark, Corbin, Singleton -- it's an embarrassment of riches. I laughed on that reverse to Smith and then flick for the 2-point conversion. A lot of these kids are hitting their stride at the moment and it's fun to watch.

Let's revisit this in another year and a half.
ESPN QBR says King is having a better year than Milton.

#3 King
#17 Milton

No other AAC QB in the Top 50.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr

Who should be 1st Team All-Conference if decided today?

In conference games only, King leads Milton in total offense 378/gm to 325/gm.

Leads Milton in passing TDs 13 to 8.

Leads Milton in rushing TDs 6 to 1.

Just noticed: Milton did not play against ECU?

King is a very good running/scrambling college QB. But a hair slower and not as shifty as Ward. Ward gained 2600 yards on the ground and scored 41 rushing TDs. So far, King has gained 850 and scored 19 on the ground.

But King's a better passer. Ward's passer rating was in the 140s his last 3 years. King was 155 last year and 170 this year.

agreed
I love them both! If I had to choose, between the 2 I would take King.

I think king will finish the better qb. Whereas ward had greater speed and agility, his throwing was mediocre/good but never great. King has an excellent arm and only slightly worse agility/speed. I also think king has better decision making skills than ward did.

But ultimately it depends on how king finishes and i still think its early for king. I ultimately believe that king will finish the better overall qb though.

I love King and the video game stats he puts up but....

Any comparisons, though fun, are a little early.

King is 9-3 since taking over the starting job Ward was 10-2 through his first 12 games.

King is 1-0 versus top 25 (as a starter/he took over early 1st quarter in USF 2017) Ward didn't play a top 25 team until game 18 but he was 6-0.

Overall Ward was 27-5 as a starter if King wins out 2018 and goes undefeated in 2019 (something Ward did not do) he would finish with 29-3.

It would take a herculean effort (18-2) to tie Ward.

In the end I do think he will be in the conversation but he is just over 1 year into being the starter. So get back to be in Jan. 2020.....
