While (kinda) watching the Troy - Southern Alabama game tonight I spotted a few young college girls in the stands drinking what looked beer. I just did a quick search of Ladd-Peebles Stadium and sure enough, they sell beer.

Quote:Ladd-Peebles Stadium offers basic fare at reasonable prices from its concession stands...

Drink options include Coke products from the fountain, frozen lemonade, bottled water, and 11 varieties of beer. Other bottled drinks are advertised, such as Powerade and sodas, but I didn’t see any stands selling them. The prices are very reasonable – all drinks range in cost from $3 to $5, including the beer, which is lower than most stadiums. The 11 varieties of beer include Coors, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Bud, Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, 4 flavors of Bud Light Ritas, and Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale, which is brewed locally in Alabama.

It made me wonder when WMU/Waldo might offer beer to get people from the tailgate and into the game. Thoughts?
I typed a long response about why I don't think its a good idea even though a lot of colleges are allowing this now.

Why not just sell pot?
WMU is rightfully concerned about litigation. To get around that they'd have to sell 3.2 Beer and that stuff sucks. Why open that can of worms?

I have been to games at Minnesota and Toledo both stadiums which sell beer. The Gophers stadium only sold it through the first half when I was there. Toledo sold it through the whole game. It has been a while since I have been to a game at Wisconsin (my wife’s alma mater), but I seem to remember them having a beer corral (or something like that) where you could buy beer, but had to stay in a roped off area, and could not bring it back to your seats. I can’t say that I have seen any obvious issues at any of these places.
A Bell's party deck with view of the game might be OK, but no drinks at the seats.
According to LSJ article Michigan law prevents it.

How about offering something besides the same old dry burgers and hotdogs? Be innovative. Offer as an alternative Gyros sandwiches with Tzatziki sauce? Have some local Greek coney island bring in some Gyros and small salads for a game and see how it goes. Heck, do some Saganaki (flaming cheese on pita bread) or kebobs on a stick. Experiment and see what works. The ladies in particular would be receptive to something other than the same old tired fare.

I'd be willing to try sushi if there is interest!

didnt they just add a bunch more food options a few years ago? Given i haven't made it to Waldo the last two years so i may not be remembering correctly.
Dear Broncos,
Eastern has had a beer deck for the last couple of years, and as far as I know, has not had any problems. I don't know if much money is made from the sale of it.

I've been to Waldo countless times and don't think I've ever purchased food in the stadium. Don't you people tailgate?

Right here, this.

On a tangent, anyone remember the "McDonald's years"?!03-lmfao
Not sure I'd want beer sales; drunk parents can be OBNOXIOUS.

Yes.

Awful.

Embarrassing.

I have no problem with current Waldo concessions, probably because I don't use them.

I don't need overpriced beer at Waldo, either. That's something for tailgates, along with fresh grilled brats on toasted buns with mustard and chopped onion. Only thing I need at Waldo is a good seat (there is not a bad one at Waldo), an accessible restroom, and a Bronco "W."
I would like to see some better food options, though it has gotten better. The popcorn is always decent. Van Andel Arena has some interesting options, including selling pizza. It's nice enough I always eat there.

Cost always turns me off, but I would spend more if prices and options were decent. Why are concessions so high? I have to imagine by lowering the price you could sell a lot more, making more profit.

When I was a kid, Michigan Stadium had a Taco Bell cart selling piping hot bean burritos, it was like manna from heaven for late October games.
Sushi?? are you fing kidding me?

It would be neat to put a restaurant with a patio/beer garden in one of the grassy corners.

Especially drunk parents of former-defensive line players who are now coaching.

Taco Bell's bean burritos, washed down with Natty Lite, create some objectionable, toxic, vile, silent sulfer-bunny farts. Can be a room clearing work of art if done right.
