Defense - Bad

Don’t have a QB. we heard about how both of these QBs had a good competition. Neither of them are good. Play the freshmen.

Discipline - non existent.

Worst team in the MAC West.

Pretty much sums it up
We’ve got talent on defense and it showed today so I give George credit but the previous letdowns were inexcusable. I just don’t understand how the O-line is this bad. I can stomach the poor QB play because both guys have never started prior to this year but the deficiencies on the OL is unexplainable...along with the penalties and turnovers...
It's like watching a roulette wheel of terrible decisions. Oh, stop them on third down? How about running into the punter? 40 mph wind in your face? Whirl around and throw a deep ball down the middle. And the list goes on and on. 148 yards in penalties.
This was like watching the later Stutz teams today with all of the penalties and dumb mistakes. Is Candle losing these guys?

I think we’ll find out the answer to that at the WMU game.

Scary when we give up 463 yards of offense and we give credit to DC. We were just worse on Offense today and it made our D look ok, I guess. Definatley we played decent D in the first half... but as they say, it’s a 60 minute game. Seconds half on both side of the ball was as bad as last weeks first half against EMU
This mess started with the bowl game last year against AppSt.
Looks like a rebuilding year!

Actually started with the OU mess last year. We survived the end of the season and were lucky not to have to play OU in the MACC.
I left with the game tied and after the first or second play of the 4th Qtr. when we threw the interception into the wind and 15 yards over the head of Thompson. By the time I got to the end of Lot 10 - it was 24-17. As of now, I still don't know the final score, but I can tell by the comments, we didn't make a comeback....

As someone else said - this team reminds me a lot of the '07 and '08 teams with the penalties and lack of discipline under the final years of Amstutz.

Anybody still worried about another school coming in and scooping up Candle now?

Absolutely. I still advocate for a change at DC and at LB coach but the defense was decent today. Some of those 2nd half yards given up were from fatigue because the offense was awful pretty much the entire day
The QB issues will rectify themselves next year, when one or both freshman are starting. Mitch and Peters are fill-ins, who hung around despite having Woodside around. Up until last year, I've felt recent O-line recruiting has been sparse and shorter on talent than usual and it shows. The combination of two issues results in an offense that breaks down and is unable to utilize its star skill players. The defense has been crumbling due to bad linebacking play. The worst part has been back-to-back weeks of astronomical penalty yardage.
3 stats that I find remarkable:

Toledo 1/12 on 3rd down conversions

Time of Possession: Buffalo 39m/50s to Toledo 20m/10s ------Buffalo had the ball TWICE as long on offense as Toledo

First Downs: Buffalo 32, Toledo 8 ------- Buffalo had as many first downs by penalties as Toledo had the entire game!

We have been spoiled by 20+ years of normally seeing high octane offenses that could usually mask or at least diminish the impact of average to sub-par defensive units---but NO MORE. The offense is now on par with the defense and neither unit is any better than average, if that. Unless something changes this what we are likely to be seeing for a while ---a middle of the pack MAC type team.

More like the Giant Wheel-O-Crap.

tick..tick..tick.tick..tick..tick.. Intercept the ball and fumble it back.
Looks like this years “signature win” is going to be BG and that’s it. What a dumpster fire this team is turning out to be.
Defense looked good up to the ruffing the QB call. That was just senseless. I can’t believe how terribly awful this team has been this year. I’m wondering how we didn’t get beat by 50 or more by Miami. Candle needs to get new DC a new O Line coach and Line backers coach. He should be worried about his job if this crap keeps up
they need to revamp. get some nfl talent coaches in there to do the job right.

no more chicken crap coaches from an hour south etc of toledo. if you want to take this program national, you need national coaches

C'mon man. Facts are just .....facts. The o-line apparently showed a lot of improvement. I'm sure that is buried in the stats somewhere.
And to think before the season when I expressed concern over the QBs and drop off from Woodside, people posted here to tell me not to worry. When you have a QB among the best in the league (and in team history) it is a huge loss. And the MAC is a QB league, best playing QB drives their team to the top. Not saying this team doesn't have other issues (OL and defense giving up big plays) but a great QB can often mask those and perhaps we all should have been more aware of the impact from loss of so many key seniors and went into this season expecting more of a rebuilding season than continuation of 2017 due to relying on quality and depth of RB and WRs.
