Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa and his family apparently have decided to focus on the next phase of his football career, which means his emphasis will be on training for the 2019 NFL draft once he is cleared to do so, several sources told The Dispatch on Tuesday.

That means he will not try to return to play for the Buckeyes this season.

The preseason All-America suffered a core muscle injury in the win against Texas Christian at Arlington, Texas, on Sept.15. He underwent surgery in Philadelphia late the next week to repair the injury, and he has been on the mend since.

The sources said that Bosa met with OSU coach Urban Meyer and some of his staff on Sunday to let them know of the decision he, his father John Bosa and the family had reached about his future.

Can't say as I blame him. Right now he's probably a top 3-5 pick. Why risk further injury (or a worse injury) to stay on the tOSU team and potentially sacrifice millions of dollars?

I'm surprised more potential 1st round college players don't do the same thing.

You’re starting to see that with top players sitting out bowl games. However, if healthy, the player most likely needs to play most of their last season.
Smart move by Bosa, a significant loss for Ohio State, though surely they have some other 4 or 5 star guy filling in for him already.
If the rumor of him having sports hernia is true I question how much of a loss this news really is because he wasn't going to be able to contribute anything to the team anyway until the bowl at the earliest. That kind of injury essentially shuts you down for several weeks.....no working out, no conditioning, etc. The recovery period from the surgery is minimum anywhere from 4-6 weeks so it's at least that long until you can get back into the heavy workouts needed to get into playing shape, and that's if you don't suffer a setback.
Good decision! He will obviously be missed by Ohio State and us fans, but it certainly the right choice.

Agreed. I have no problem with players with serious injury deciding to call it a day as they near the end of their collegiate career to keep from re-injuring themselves. That makes sense.

It's the healthy scratches during bowls that perplex me. I mean I can understand to a degree, but still.

Why show on the field that you're now damaged goods? Let the scouts look at his existing film. His draft workout speed and strength numbers will still be OK.

Couldn’t sitting out scare teams away also, asking for a friend?

Another question. How many games did he actually play in. Can he take a medical redshirt incase the draft doesn't work out. At this point he probably will go to the NFL anyway no matter where he is drafted but it might be an option others of lower draft status who get injured might use in the future. 03-idea 03-shhhh 07-coffee3

He's going top 5, maybe even #1.

Anyone if they haven't used the redshirt can take if they haven't played 4 games. Medical Redshirt still requires NCAA approval
Will very much miss him but the right call. At the end of the day, college is supposed to be about preparing you for your future and going back at this point will likely only hurt him.
OoH OH. Once college football players start to realize their worth and exercising their options, the CFP facade is gone. Maybe they should start creating a fair and entertaining college system that appeals to normal college football fans outside of the ESPN driven horse crap that has made a mockery out of amateur sports and competition. Maybe just maybe we'll start getting the 4 most deserving teams over the 4 'best' teams. What's less American than not wanting to see the most deserving rise over the bloated over deserving.

Unfortunately, you'll NEVER get consensus of who the "best" 4 teams are or who the 4 "most deserving" teams are.

Even if you expanded the playoffs, the first team left out (and their fans) would b!tch and make an argument why they belong "in".

You wouldn't get agreement on this board, from the coaches, writers, computers, or committee. You just have to pick and hope for the best.

I for one want to see the best. Deserving is irrelevant, it's who EARNS it that should be in.
