IMG Academy RHP/UT Jake Gelof (6’1” 180lbs) commits to the Tribe. Perfect Game had this to say:

“Jake Gelof is a 2020 SS/RHP with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Rehoboth Beach, DE who attends IMG Academy. Recorded a 6.89 second 60-yard dash time. Large frame with long legs, broad shoulders, and a very projectable build. Primary shortstop with a full arm stroke and very good arm strength recorded up to 91 mph across the diamond. Gets extended out front well with good athleticism and balance to actions. Arm strength also played from the outfield. Secondary righthanded pitcher with a side step into a high leg lift above the belt. Long arm stroke and mixed in an 11/5 curveball with some depth. Fields position well and utilizes a drop and drive backside approach. Righthanded hitter with a narrow base, high hand set, and a high back elbow. Uphill swing path with some loft to the plane. Has some present bat speed and does well at extending with strength through the point of impact. Good student. Named to the 2018 Jr. National Showcase Top Prospect List.”

His brother is a freshman on UVA’s baseball team.
Lucas Carmichael commits to the Tribe. Perfect Game had this to say back in July:

“Lucas Carmichael (2020, Chester, Va.) is another player who may not have stuffed the box score today but showed tantalizing talent on the diamond. The 6-foot-3 center fielder is a rangy, uber-athletic type with present well-proportioned strength with room to build more. He recorded a 4.15-second home-to-first time and this speed plays when he is roaming the outfield, too, as he covers a ton of ground. The long-limbed Carmichael hits with an open stance from the left side and is able to cover the entire plate and uses his loose hands to execute an effortless swing. There is little reason to think that Carmichael, the fourth-ranked Virginia outfielder in the class, won’t hit for power in the future and his ceiling appears to be very high.”

I found these notes from a June showcase on his Perfect Game page:

“Nic Britt is a 2020 SS/2B with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Chesapeake, VA who attends Greenbrier Christian Academy. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and nice present strength proportioned well throughout frame. Ran a 6.84 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, moves well with light and quick footwork, longer strides going to the backhand, clean glove skills and softness to hands, fields the ball out front and funnels well, quick arm and gets on top of throws, good carry across the diamond and arm plays on left side, nice balance throughout with sound and repeatable actions. Righthanded hitter, begins with a narrow and slightly open base and a lower hand set in the box. Shows balance to load and throughout swing with fluidity to it, creates nice bat speed through the zone. Turns the barrel well and gets extended out front, ball comes off well when squared and showed best contact to the middle and pull side parts of the field with ability to elevate. Very good student. Named to Junior National Top Prospect List. Verbal commitment to Virginia.”
Tribe pick up a commitment from RHP/OF Garrett Newsome (6’2” 200lbs - McLean, VA). Prep Baseball Report had the following notes:

9/29/18

Solid, athletic body type and projectable 6-foot-2, 195 pound frame. Controlled wind-up and leg kick into a tall, compact balance point. Clean hand separation with down to out lower half drive. Long, free arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. Lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 86-88 mph. Breaking ball was 74-75 mph with big gradual 11/5 break. Hits from a tall, balanced, slightly open stance at the plate. Small back load and short stride. Creates some separation and showed a short, quick, compact, slightly uphill swing. Gets nice extension past contact. Gap to gap type hitter with some pop.

PBR Future Games 8.1.18

Projectable athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash. Hits froma taller, slightly open set up with hands at head and flat bat. Short swing path to the ball with some extension through contact. Works middle of the field well. Has some strength in swing and potential at the plate. Exit velocity of 92 mph. On the mound has a tall, controlled delivery with easy tempo. Medium leg kick with down to out action. Creates slight cross-body action in delivery to landing. Average backside involvement through release. Gets hips through well. Slight pause after separation with a sound arm action. Pitches with light effort. Fastball has run and sink to the pitch up to 87 mph on the day. Breaking ball has bigger 11/5 action on the pitch with gradual break. Shows proper shape and potential on the pitch. Threw change up in warms ups, arm side fade to the pitch with near fastball arm. Athletic frame and still plenty of room for growth in this athletic prospect.“

Catcher Nate Goranson (6’0 165lbs - Millville, NJ) commits to the Tribe!

https://mobile.twitter.com/NathanGoranso...6311049218

Prep Baseball Report New Jersey had this to say about him last June:

“Goranson has a broad shouldered, athletic frame at 6-foot 165-pounds. Was one of the top overall performers from the event and one of the top uncommitted 2020 catchers in the state. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.24-seconds and recorded an exit velocity of 89 MPH, one of the highest of the event. At the plate, Goranson starts in a tall, athletic stance with hands in line with back shoulder. As pitch arrives, Goranson uses a foot stride to start swing as hands load back and up slightly. Powerful, explosive hips and hands through the zone. Balanced finish with lift to swing. Behind the plate, Goranson topped at 82 MPH with throws to 2B and recorded pop times between 1.97-2.12 – both of which were top stats out of the catching crop of the event. Soft hands when receiving and stays low has he rises out of the crouch to throw. Efficient, quick movements in transfer out of the crouch help the ball get out of his hand with swiftness. Throws jumped out of hand with backspin and carry.”

Tribe pick up a commitment from 6’1 LHP Adam Fischer of West Potomac High School!

https://mobile.twitter.com/STARSBASEBALL...2301750272

Prep Baseball Report had this to say back in June:

“Fischer is 6-1 with an athletic frame that still has projection left to it. He throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short free quick arm action and normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are closed and uphill, lands on line with an athletic finish. Fastball 83-85, touching 86 with some run to the armside. Curveball had good armspeed and sharp 1/7 break to it. Showed command of the zone.”
