Despite the struggles and frustrations many of us old timers remember WMU having in Mount Pleasant, that was long ago and the new reality is the Broncos have not lost there since the 2010 goal line fumble give-a-way.

Several generations of CMU players - including Cooper Rush - have NEVER experienced a victory over WMU in their home stadium.

After the 2016 blow-out, which included a beautiful, and memorable, 95-yard touchdown drive WITHOUT A SINGLE PASS ATTEMPT, the stadium in Mount Pleasant was appropriately renamed "Waldo North" by several WMU coaches.

The Broncos soundly beat CMU in 2012, 2014 and 2016. This Saturday it is critical WMU continue that streak. Maybe someone should print-out some "Waldo North" signs to cover existing stadium signage in Mount Pleasant?

Reminds me of the 1983 game at Waldo, WMU scored a TD and then CMU used 5 running plays-mostly misdirection-to come right back and take the lead on a TD. They went on to win 32-14. Nothing like a good all-running series for a TD to break an opponents spirit. Hopefully it'll be us on Saturday.

Fortunately, unlike 1983, Jack Harbaugh is no longer our coach.
I usually attend the game with CMU people when it's in Mt. P, because that's mostly what there are in my neck of the woods. A local kid also plays on CMU's offensive line, and he and I rib each other about the rivalry in the offseason. It has been tremendously satisfying lately.
There could be more WMU fans in Waldo North this Saturday than CMU fans. Here is the attendance from each of CMU's home games so far this season:

KANSAS: 18,127
MAINE: 16,474
BUFFALO: 14,044
BALL STATE: 10,255

Granted, if WMU was in a similar "crash & burn" situation, its numbers would not be much different.

Keeping the Cannon trophy in Creepy Bonamego's bed is the only thing CMU has to play for. A victory Saturday will salvage its season, even if it is accomplished in relative privacy.
Students will show for this game, at least for the first half. They always do. I expect quite a few WMU fans to make the trip too. Probably a decent crowd.

No way. They're all going to UM/MSU
Why in the F do we schedule this on the same weekend? Its happened several times lately.
Didn't realize that was this weekend. Will put a damper on the crowd for sure. Bet the students do still show, though.

Edit: The MAC schedules conference games along with TV. Between the conference's interests and ESPN's I doubt there is a lot of room for complaints/pressure on the school's behalf.

Whoever is in charge of scheduling needs to be let go, only way your'e gonna get students to consistently show up to games in solid numbers if for us to win big consistently and have good teams at Waldo. Otherwise you can't really blame the students for not wanting to watch Maction games in the cold when huge B1G rivalry games are going on right down the road.

I think scheduling the game with your main rival at THEIR stadium on the saturday when Michigan - Michigan State are playing is actually pretty brilliant.
Seems there is a complaint no matter when this game is scheduled, lol. I think this is about perfect. The conference is not going to be able to work this one game around UM and MSU every single year, nor should they have to worry about the Big Ten's schedule. Remember there are other rivalries in the MAC. Not everyone is going to be pleased.

Sure I can. Support your own school. There is no logical reason to follow a Big Ten school more than your own.
I'll actually be at THEE Waldo Stadium during our game Saturday. :(

Michigan / Michigan State people can **** off.
Let’s take over Kelly shorts on Saturday! Maybe when the students leave at half. Our students can go take over their student section! Lol

I don' follow any big ten schools but lets be honest MSU/UM will be more interesting than CMU/WMU

I agree.

Schedule it early in the season: "A loss this season practically ruins the losing team's season so early."

Schedule it late in the season: "Game should be played early in the season when it's still warm out and people will go."

I don't really think the game being scheduled the same day as MSU-UM is an issue. It's not ideal, but it's not like kickoff's at the same time. CMU and WMU both have thousands of alumni who understand this rivalry. If you can't get them to show up for this game, there are bigger issues.

If attendance is poor, it'll be because CMU is at 1 win and hasn't beaten an FBS team yet.
I will be there w/ a couple friends. Go Broncos!
Conference games are scheduled by the Mid-American conference...Kathy has nothing to do with this or the three horrible mid-week games coming up..

Completely this. Our conference has no shortage of scheduling challenges without trying to have to plan around Big 10 or other regionally important college games.

If I could wish for any changes though, it would be to have these traditional rivalry games set back to the end of the season if at all possible, the way they mostly used to be 15+ years ago.
