Certain posters on this board think the buck stops at some assistant coaches and the waterboy. I guess he's just telling them they're wrong. Did he take personal responsibility for not having his team prepared for things like, knowing the rules of the game or the hostile atmosphere at Eastern Michigan University?

I've nothing against the guy. Seems like a high morals guy. But he's the one making the million. He's the one that would go on to a higher pay-check if the team succeeds. So it's his responsibility to accept.

If you watch the sidelines during the games, you don’t see coaches getting in players faces, coaches or players trying to fire up each other up or really anyone yelling. You just see the Off or Def unit run to the bench and take a seat. I rarely see emotion except when we score. I get the sense that Candle or his assistants don’t really yell much at the players so the fact that the team doesn’t play with much discipline or emotion isn’t really that big of a shock...

Don’t say they didn’t show emotion. I was on the emu side of the field. I watched as some of our players ran to the stands to get the fans fired up. It was a fantastic site. And our fans were drowning out the emu fans. Made me happy to be a Rocket Fan. Even if we did lose.

I remember way back when Saban was at Toledo and he did his radio show with Jerry Keil. The thing that struck me then was how, even after a good win, Saban would be fixated on the things the team did wrong and how they had to do better. I remember thinkng what a perfectionist this guy is. He was always pushing the team to be better. From what I can see, he is still like that. I contrast that with what I've heard from Candle since he's been head coach. Even after losses, he seems to make sure to talk about the positive things the team did in the defeat. Maybe its just their respective personalites as head coaches and how they handle wins and losses publicly but, it's something I've noticed.

Toledo's defense is ranked 112th in total defense and 106th against the run. All 111 teams above Toledo spend more on assistants? This defense isn't just bad, it's the worst I've ever seen. Candle rarely gives out much more than standard coach speak. I'm sure he knows the defense sucks. It's up to him to make a new hire.

If BG can fire their head coach mid-season, we can't fire our DC?

I agree, move on to Buffalo with a couple of final points. At the end of the day, we are still talking about 18-22 year old College Students who play to get a Scholarship while still enjoying being a college student. It's a means to an end. I actually saw Candle visibly upset at the first time out. I've not seen this from him before. Anyhow.....
