Taking it one week at a time man. We’re back to square one if we don’t take care of business against Rice next week.

USM has to get past North Texas next week, before you can start dreaming about UAB.

From what I saw tonight, North Texas had two problems....

1. Our players were still down from losing last week, and lacked focus for a good portion of the evening.

2. Several of our players are still recovering from injuries incurred during last weeks game with LA Tech, and we had some backups starting in some key spots.

I’ll be at that game in two weeks and expect a hell of a game with you guys.

Of course we have to get passed UNT first. I expect a good game. With the way UNT has played the past few weeks and the fact USM will have had 2 weeks to gameplan for a team that USM lost at home to last year...our guys will be super hungry. For that reason I like our chances but hey, that's why they play the game.

Y'all should have lost this game. UTEP was the better team tonight. 2 ints cost them the game.
UTEP should have won. They looked better , just made more mistakes.
I think we all knew UTSA was going to be at the top in the West after 2 conference games. :)
Like I said, our conference has a lot of parity, all mediocre. There is no telling what the outcome of any game will be.

UTEP looked better, but I don't think they should have won. UNT made plenty of mistakes too. Our receivers dropped several passes, some of which would have been touchdowns, and our 3rd string corner gave up too many deep completions. If UTEP should have won, they would have won. It isn't like the refs stole the game from them.

North Texas played bad, but it was still good enough to earn an ugly win.
FIU, WKU, Charlotte, and USM were off.

So UAB won a defensive struggle with La Tech. QB stats look awful from this game.

UNT sounds banged-up, but Fine keeps them in every game. Should be a good game hosting USM this week.

UTEP finally showing a pulse is nice. Looks like they're scraping together some offense.

UTSA played less awful than Rice and won. How do you win with 43 passing yards??

In the East, MTU is sticking its head up the highest after beating Marshall Friday. Beating FIU would just about give them the division. FIU winning puts them firmly in the race.

FAU remembered how to run it down someone's throat again. Not sure they can do that the rest of the way. ODU is still building.

100%. I'm sick of hearing the "road goes thru..." Let's just wait and see what happens. No one has been crowned yet. La Tech has to play in the Alamodome next week, Southern Miss travels to Denton after a bye weeK, UAB has to travel to Houston.
6 teams from the west in action next week against each other. Not UTEP.
Should be interesting. I’ll be following.
UAB at Rice is an early game, I think.
Not sure how UAB shutdown JMar so well. Really impressed with that. 2-12 on 3rd downs. UAB 229 rushing yards. Smashmouth.

La Tech will rebound versus UTSA and UTEP. UAB gets Rice before hosting UNT. UAB is sitting well right now.
UNT & LA Tech were extremely hungover from their game the week before. If you watched the UNT-LT game you would have seen it was the most physical game in C-USA all year. Both teams got banged up and both were extremely emotional afterwards. LT is better than UAB, but I picked UAB to win this week because I realized how off Tech would be this week. Thankfully, UNT pulled it out against UTEP even being hungover. Plus we sat a lot of our marginal guys this game so they could rest up for the Southern Miss game. UNT will beat Southern Miss by 10+ & LA Tech will beat UTSA by 10-14

Tech had two OL go down early in the first half and UAB did an outstanding job taking advantage of the new guys and lack of communication. Really nice interior movement and blitz packages that stuffed the run and forced long passing downs. In the passing situations UAB had some well choreographed blitzes that got home. Offhand only two of those incompletions should have been completed. The rest were throwaways or JMar was hit causing an errant pass. Five sacks and a dozen or more QB hurries. Not pretty, but absolute genius with the play calling defensively for UAB. Offensively UAB just kept grinding and giving their D enough rest to be fresh and eventually Tech's D was flat out gassed. Throw in three turnovers on the few drives Tech did have something going and you end up with three fourth qtr TDs to put the game to bed.
I don't care who it is, but we need someone to start emerging as THE TEAM each year, even if it's different every year. MWC has Boise, AAC has UCF, Sunbelt has Appy for OOC stuff. That's the only way we get any press. Beating up on each other just looks like a cannibalized crappy league. FAU was getting some press and pre-season hype after running the table in CUSA last year. I'm not suggesting we create that team by laying down. I just wish someone would go on a OOC tear and then run the league table to get us in the conversation.
Ya I dunno if making predictions in conference this year means anything. Basically saying if UAB would have played UNT this week and won, UNT would almost be out of the conference race with 2 losses, 2 games into conference play. . If La Tech would have played UTEP they would be 2-0. There are so many factors that if something small were to change it could make a difference alll season. Every team gets beat up & players get hurt, get too up for a game or play down to a team. The players we are talking about are very young. So that's going to happen. I think a lot of games could go either way. It's good to see a bunch of 2-0 & 1-1 teams.
North Texas dodged a bullet in El Paso last night. I watched both this and the UAB @ La Tech game.
