pretty good roster this year. 13 eligible guys and very little filler. Should see a lot of contributors. Guard play is deep now with Darrington. You got M Jackson, Darrington, Sanford, Littleson who can all shoot and handle. Add Saunders and Alderson for size, defense hustle. Smaller athletic forwards in W Jackson and Hill. Gordon is a good team player who fill in a couple spots in a pinch. Navigato offers shooting, experience and ballhandling at a forward and Smith provides an athletic option of the bench. Knapke and Edu (who looks like a real 6-10 next to 6-11 1/2 Knapke in the photo) give you height with some versatiilty. Outside of a true 6-8 banger type (Hill is more like 6-6) it's a complete roster that should be able to withstand an injury to anyone outside of Knapke and not lose a step.

I think beating EMU in the conf tourney without Fletch was huge. That showed these guys their potential. With more interior depth and several more promising guards I'm excited. Granted, EMU is loaded they only lost 1 starter and 1 rotation backup and added a good 7 footer, a blue chip 6-9 recruit out of nowhere and a solid juco guard so they should be deeper and taller too (more like an ACC or Big10 team in size and athleticism). Ball state is better and Buffalo will be good again -at least they lost that PG who killed us. MAC has a real shot at 2 or 3 NCAA teams this year.

Had a chance to watch Saturday’s practice. Several of the new players stood out. Darrington will get a lot of minutes at both 1 and 2. His is really quick, a good three point shooter, and agressive defender. You are going to love Littleson. Reminds me of Lauf, but with better offensive skills, and more athletic. Finally, Edu has star potential. Needs to add strength and weight, but he is an athlete with a huge upside. Loved when he stuffed Knapke .

Will Coach K play more than 8 or 9 guys?

I think one of our stumbling blocks has been that the team tends to wear down as the season gets to late February/March. Would love to see 10 or 11 guys getting floor time, even if mostly in the 1st half, just to keep guys fresh. Maybe this is the season we have that depth?

I do think the MAC is going to be tough— at least against each other.

i say that carefully. i'm not one of those guys who complained about 28-6 akron teams that played nobody getting shunned by the ncaa. EMU has top 50 talent and plays 3 or 4 prominent programs non-conf. buffalo will start the season on the tourney radar and plays a couple ncaa type P5 teams and some good mid majors. ball state is a top 100 team with a good non conf schedule. toledo would probably need to win the mac to get at large consideration but those other 3 could get in with strong non-conf performances and 2nd or 3rd in the mac. remember, that no one "major' will play at a mac school anymore so the good non-conf opponents are all on the road (with the exception of strong mid majors like marshall or middle tenn state). good non-conf road wins are gold, you just gotta pull those games out but with the leagues 4 most talented teams all veteran laden with what should be clutch players, i'd bet that the MAC pulls off more name upsets this year than they have in a long time.

I can't fault a mid major for schedule lapses. There is nothing that says the P5 schools have to return phone calls. Strength of schedule come ncaa time is BS. Big schools rarely play away from home vs mid majors unless its a holiday tournament. But mid majors always get dinged at tournament time. Its crap.

If EMU has a year like Akron a few years ago, fails to win the MAC Tournament, and gets destroyed vs. TCU, Duke, and Kansas, then the committee will look at the four wins against non-D1 programs and throw them out. Replace them with regional mid-majors and it will help the conference as a whole. It would be nice to see the MAC make a formal partnership with conferences like the Horizon, MVC, A10, and even a low-major like the OVC when putting schedules together.

The excuses like, "Well, North Carolina and Kentucky won't play in Ypsi on a Wednesday in December... I guess we'll have to schedule Goshen!" are complete b.s. in my opinion.

Valid point, but if we schedule middle tenn state it doesn't seem to help us much.

having some games against non D1 teams is immaterial to the selection committee. they have road games against duke, kansas, tcu (likely ncaa team) and rutgers (possible bubble team). that's more tough non-conf road games than almost any other team in the country. if they play well in those it will mean far more than if they beat alabama state or VMI instead of goshen at home. the committee selections are about 1) top 30 win 2) top 70 wins 3) road record 4) bad losses. MAC teams don't get at large bids because they don't have top 30 wins and maybe 1 or 2 in conference top 70 wins. quick, name the top 5 teams the mac beat non-conf last year? exactly

if emu splits those 4 big games or wins 1 and takes a couple others to the wire they will get consideration if their mac record is strong.

and EMU doesn't play many D1 home games because those cost money and they are broke.

I saw the end of the practice too. Darrington is a playmaker. Edu plays on the wing a lot but crashes the boards. Edu playing the 3 would be amazing since he has size and quickness.

Wish that the scrimmage was publicized better, I stumbled upon it.
