Make your own assessment but it seems that if we want more wins, we need to pay more money.
We need to get close to $1 million in the next few years. Either by Bobby being awesome and demanding that to keep him, or by paying that to the next guy to get to the level we want to be at. ECU, UCF, USF all are at or over $1million. UVA is over $3 million and VT is over $4 million.
Talking about salaries does Bobby Wilder have a clause in his contract for beating a top 25 team? I'm aware he has one for winning a Conference USA championship and a bowl game but does he have one for beating a ranked team? if so all our donations from a few weeks ago after the win are probably paying his bonus.
Umm....bigger question than salary is.....Who can or would come forward to pay for the 1.2M buyout ? We are likely stuck for the the next few years.

I'm sure he gets a bonus for beating an ACC team, as well as a Top 25 team. Hope someone can pull this up and confirm?

Expensive loss for VT in Norfolk - and highly affordable win for us!

Good find, I think there's more to his contract than just that because he did receive a bonus for the bowl game. From vapilot "ODU doled out nearly $60,000 in bowl bonuses, mandated in contracts, to the coaching staff."
I found this from his base contract in 2012: https://hkm.com/football/contracts/bobby-wilder/

Participate in Bowl that is neither a BCS game nor a "Best of Rest" game: $10,000

University will also pay a "Program Bonus Pool":
1. Participate in a bowl game that is neither a BCS nor Best of Rest: 1/24th of then-current salary pool for assistant coaches
2. Participate in a BCS or Best of Rest Bowl: 1/12th of then current salary pool for assistant coaches
3. Win National Championship: 2/12th of then-current salary pool for assistant coaches (no idea why they said 2/12th instead of 1/6th, come on!)

Also, Wilder and his wife get a late model premium vehicle. Fun

But still, nothing about beating ranked or ACC teams.

It should be noted those per-year win bonuses permanently increase his salary by that amount, it's not a one-time bonus. That's pretty huge if he can put together multiple successful seasons.

True. If he strung together four 8 or 9 win seasons he’d be getting paid well for G5. Of course, he’d probably leave for P5 millions at that point.
The win total salary increases seems awfully generous. I would want to structure it so that he would have to have a certain number of wins over a 2-3 year period in order to qualify for the increase. Our recent 10 win season being case in point. Why such a generous reward for a one year achievement followed the next 2 years with broken eggs?

I believe those incentives were part of his extension, which happened after the bowl season. It should be noted that those win totals do not count FCS wins or bowl wins. (edit - so for example, if that 10 win season happened with this structure, he would be given credit for 8 wins which is good for a $50,000 permanent annual salary increase).

I don't think it's that egregious. If he puts together multiple winning seasons his salary automatically increases. If he sucks, it doesn't increase. Seems like a great incentive strategy to me.
