I assume Deguara is a Tuberville recruit as was Broughton. We have yet to see Doaks. It appears there were at least a few good ones.
BTW - was it Lewis who dropped the wide open TD pass last year at Michigan?

The backbone of our team is Tubberville recruits. I don't think Tubbervilles staff ever recruited
that poorly, they just were never able to develop players.
We are bringing in a higher caliber of players now, but the it was poor coaching and bad habits that took us down to our low point. A lot of those Tubberville recruits had talent.

I see much more speed on D and receivers who can catch and run.

THIS!
Not only did Tuberville and his staff not develop talent, they also appeared unable to adequately USE the talent they got. (See "Ralph David Abernathy IV running up the middle.")
I always said that I think Tuberville's greatest weakness here was that he sees himself as the "CEO/Head Coach," in which his job was basically "hands off" and to "let the kids play." Right down to the fact that players were free to swap themselves in and out of games. He (Tuberville) let his coordinators call the game and he largely would be on the sidelines "managing" the coordinators.
I prefer a Head Coach who is more involved in teaching and forming "his" team. And that's what we have with Fickell, I think.
Tuberville has 2-3 guys who could recruit- Gran, Hinshaw, and Prunty. Gran And Hinshaw shut it down after they realized they were leaving in 2015. Prunty did a great job the first couple seasons but was not as effective afterwards. The rest of the staff struggled to recruit quality and picked up what they could. Notice we have very few TT era JR and Sophomores making an impact.
Isn't Desmond Ridder a Tuberville recruit?

correct
There's recruiting and coaching. For some, it's an either/or ability.

Was Ridder in the Tuberville class Fickell inherited? I forgot that some of Fickell’s first class could have originally been via Tuberville. Also any RS sophomores would have been Tuberville.
I noticed in the box score from yesterday's game they credited Doaks with two tackles. I'm guessing this is an error and it's Potts who also is listed as wearing #23? I think the Tulane game last year was Doaks big game, he had about 150 yds or so. See if he plays saturday.

Yes, Ridder was a commit before Tubby was axed.
Ridder Verbaled under TT. After Fick was hired, he openedhiscommitmentbut after meeting with the new staff reaffirmed his verbal commitment.
Ridder was an under the radar prospect. Louisville St. X, his HS, ran the option so he did not throw it much in his prep career. The kid definitely has a lot of poise and talent, me thinks Mike Denbrock and Coach Gino are coaching the kid up much better than Zach Taylor could have.

I agree with all this, but I am quite a bit harder on Tuberville. He saw himself as a media person rather than a head coach. He was not intellectually vested in the team. There is no level of football that allows players to swap themselves in and out. I remember the game crew at UC/Memphis in Memphis reported the "swapping" and they were astounded. Another example of his negligence as coach was his reaction to a reporter about altitude and preparation in the away game at BYU. He said something about it not being a problem because it is not like a mile high. Provo is like 500 ft short of a mile and if you remember, we were gassed that game. Moreover, I remember Rath reporting that the cats just goofed off in pregame before the Armed Forces Bowl because no coach was in charge. This is a sign of lazy coaching I could go on and on but it is water under the bridge. This was a retirement job for Flubby. He thought he was like the coach in A league of Our Own. If he came out and waved his hat at the crowd, he deserved his 2 million per year. Thank God for Fick.
17 of 22 starters were recruited by the previous staff. Only Trout, Boyd, Warren, Forrest and Bryant are Fickell additions on the 1st teams...

Also, Doaks was a TT recruit as well at Rb.

And yet we are one of the four youngest teams. Comments above re the coaching of the talent scream truth.
Speaking of young teams, how many times did the UConn announce crew remind us how young their team was without once saying anything about UC's youth? Buddy & I started a drinking game out of it in the second half and I almost ran outta beer!

Agreed. Kept waiting for them to talk about McClelland, Thomas and Jackson all playing significant minutes as true frosh, not to mention Robinson and Ridder as RS frosh. Along with all the other Sophomores at key positions. Could have talked a lot about the recruiting chops of Fickell & Co. and how that's contributing to the re-build of the program.
I think the announcers were just looking for a way to put a positive spin on UConn's performance and future prospects. As opposed to saying "Cincinnati is a really young team too. Only their young players are actually good."
