So as this new year of WMU Hockey is upon us... thought it might be interesting to start a prediction thread for this season.
How do you feel we will end up in the NCHC... do you think that 4th overall at the end is congruent with our team at this point? NCAA appearance at the end of the season? Wade Allison going to be healthy all season and leading the league in assists.... goals... and all over amazing play?
I think we are going to have an exciting season... Lawson is going to be rocking and rewarded with some fun games this year and I hope to be at some of them.
However... i think that this season is going to rely on defense and goaltending... if we can get some solid play on the backend of this team we will be just fine...

Injuries can torpedo any season but I think this impressive freshman class will shore up some of the depth issues from recent years. Penalties will continue to hurt us at times but I think 3rd in the NCHC just ahead of UND and a 2 seed in the NCAAs.
From there, total crapshoot.
2nd in the NCHC just behind Duluth, and a frozen four team.

i think 3rd place in NCHC and 2nd seed in tournament . Allison will struggle till after Xmas and our goal tending will be key to our success or failure . Defence will be better than last year and forward debth is better this year as well . Book it Dano
This is a HUGE year for Murray IMO, with all the talent returning and new freshman, this team should be in contention for the NCHC and frozen four.
If he doesnt make it with this talent, he needs to go.

I have a feeling we will be 3rd or 4th in NCHC but go on a run and win the frozen faceoff and also get our 1st playoff win as a program.

So just like St Cloud last year , they were the #1 rated team in the country and lost to Air Force there first game the same way we did . One and done ways of eliminating teams is a very poor way of doing things . The better team does not have a chance to come back if they have a poor game . If it's 2 out of 3 us and St Cloud would have pervailed no doubt about it .

One and done ways of eliminating teams is a very poor way of doing things . The better team does not have a chance to come back if they have a poor game . If it's 2 out of 3 us and St Cloud would have pervailed no doubt about it .

3rd in the conference. Winning a NCAA game partially depends on health and matchups in March.
We seem to be locked into the lower tier in the NCHC, I don't see that changing with all these new faces. 4th is probably as good as we'll ever do with the likes of SCSU and UND in the conference. 4th-5th this season-maybe, depending on how fast we gel.

True, if Murray doesn't win an NCAA Tourney game next time we make it, he probably never will.

I think too many here don't appreciate that there isn't that much of a difference between the top teams or top conferences, and the lower half. Hockey is a lot different than football or basketball. Air Force was a very good team when it beat us and St cloud in the NCAA tournament. Coaches and players know this, but fans sometimes don't. Anyone can win the NCAA tournament if they get in. So the key is getting into the tournament. The more times you can get in, the more chances you have to win.

Yea sure that's why every other hockey league runs best of 5 or best of 7 series in playoffs . You my friend have obviously not played much hockey before it's not pressure, bad break , poor pentalties calls , goalie has a bad game etc ... one and done makes it a crap shoot not alway the better team winning that way . Basketball Baseball same thing

The NHL has seven game series during playoffs, yet upsets are the norm, rather than unusual. Hockey is a game of bounces. College sports are single game eliminations. They don't have the luxury of doing series. With hockey the teams in the playoffs are as close to being equal, from top to bottom, as any sport, and more so. And once the games start it doesn't matter what league you come from. Play on the ice will dictate who wins. Better bring your energy, and leave your ego at home, because the team you are playing doesn't care about your pedigree.

We have lots of new Freshman, but only lost 4 seniors. Most of our team from last year is back. The freshman are just added depth for the most part.
