Don't remind me. At least you guys were ranked #1 at the time.
I am new to this bulletin board system, so I feel that I should introduce myself for purposes of understanding my point of view. I grew up a Buckeyes fan, spent the first 18 years (minus those I was too young to remember) watching Buckeyes games each Saturday in the fall. More importantly, I spent the first 18 years of my life hating Michigan. I chose to go to the University of Toledo for college, attended a few games but could not have cared anything about Toledo. I remember laughing when I saw signs in the Student Union saying "Go Rockets, Beat Penn State." Growing up a Buckeyes fan, I laughed and said there is no way this little Toledo team is going to beat Penn State. That Saturday I was proven wrong. Like you stated, Penn State 14, Toledo 24. Well, I attended a couple more Toledo games and I began to learn more about the team. Toledo really does have an excellent team and they appear to be getting better each year. They have a quarterback that I think could possibly play for most Big Ten teams. Gradkowski will be a junior next year and I truly think he will be a star. I have become a huge Toledo fan. I no longer only follow Ohio State. Toledo makes it convenient to follow their games and also Ohio State's because their home games are played at night, which is another great thing about Toledo. I think that night games are truly what football is all about. I attended the Ohio State vs. Washington game last year and it was great. The Buckeyes throttled Washington and it was a night game. That is what football should be. Anyway, my point is that I don't think that our Buckeyes would be able to beat on my Rockets like that again. I honestly believe for two reasons that I am glad that Ohio State doesn't play Toledo next year. Number one, Toledo is going to be another great team and even with away games such as Minnesota and Kansas on thier schedule, I think the Rockets have a good chance of going undefeated. They are definitely going to be an exciting team to watch, and for this I think that they might have a chance to compete with an Ohio State team. Also I have become [at 100% football fan] a 51% Toledo fan and 49% Ohio State fan, therefore, I would root for the Rockets to win.
The Big Ten will be loaded once again next year. That is a tough schedule.

And we would have finished that year #1 had the MSU refs not been total morons.

I blame Cooper for overlooking the Spartans. That game hurt. Hurt real bad.

Rockets7 - welcome aboard! Be sure to check out the Toledo board over on the MAC forums here. There are a few of us that have been posting here since right about the time they started these forums on NCAAbbs.

I grew up liking both Toledo and Ohio State. As a kid I was a good basketball player and I dreamed of going to Ohio State. When I was in high school I went to some basketball camps at UT (back in the Jay Eck era) and at Central Michigan. My sophomore year we played at Wapakoneta (sp?) and there was an assistant coach from OSU that was checking out the game. After the game he came over and talked to me and at the end of the season I got my first letter from Ohio State showing their interest in me.

At the same time I was starting to lose my interest in playing basketball for the high school team. I hated our coach and I thought that was just how it was when playing for a school. He was a very abusive guy that would throw stuff at his players from time to time. The one day at the beginning of my junior year, before the season acutally started, he kicked a garbage cans of basketballs at my best friend when he missed a layup. Then he threw a basketball at him and hit him in the back of the head.

I quit that day and lost my dream of playing basketball in college. I ended up playing in a church league for a couple of years and everyone kept asking me why I didn't play for the high school team. The year after I graduated from high school they finally fired that coach! :bang:

My second year of college at UT, the basketball team had some trouble with players not being eligible and they were down to something like 8 or 9 players. I thought about walking onto the team but I didn't.

Now, some 10-12 years later I am kicking myself for two mistakes:

1) Being too stupid at the time to realize that my high school coach was wrong and I should have transferred to another high school.

2) Not having enough guts to walk on at UT when I thought about it. I should have done it and I know I could have made the team.
