Full Version: Are expectations to high for Buckshot?

Against ODU Buckshot looked like an All Pro. Against Army, Buckshot has a few good moments but mostly mediocre play. Against North Texas, which is a good, well balanced team, Buckshot had an opportunity to weigh his skills and talents against a very good opposing QB. And a very good QB was smooth, calm and made excellent decisions. It just was not Buckshot. True he did have many dropped passes and his usually reliant receivers let him down. And the weather was horrible (for both teams). But Buckshot did stall one drive with an interception in the red zone, took a QB sack rather than tossing the ball out of bounds, and had several over throws. Not his best game.

Playing against good mid-major FBS teams shows the strengths and highlights the weaknesses of LU that lesser quality FCS teams did not. As much as I had hoped for 4+ wins this year, 4 wins now seems like it would be a successful season.
The strength of this team is the QB/WRs. They're FBS ready. The problem tonight, for Buckshot, was the rain. Too many dropped balls.
The announcers (finally) said that the O looked very inconsistent. I've seen this all of last year and so far this year. Need some more talent and better coaching. Paying someone 700k for 6-5 in the FCS is terrible. That happen three years straight.
Anyway, Buckshot will look okay this year imo. Just stay out of the rain.

Buckshot can throw, but if our receivers drop them it's on them.
Buckshot wasn’t great last night but a lot of it isn’t his fault. Receivers dropping balls and the weather didn’t help. Hopefully our next home game has decent weather.
I agree with most here. Calvert could have been better this week but was hurt by the receivers. It didn't help with the weather or that they got so far behind and the defense knew LU had to throw. Despite all that, he still delivered some great passes.

Exactly, he is a great qb and easily the best we’ve had. He needs to clean up some things if he wants to play at the next level (NFL, CFL etc.) but he is not the problem. Our inability to stop the run is showing again. UNT is a spread you out team that struggles to run the ball great. However, this weekend, the rain started and they just started pounding it down our throats. If I were a team playing LU I would run the ball and not throw it. Literally any FBS team should have success running the ball.
