I just thought I'd get something else off our minds for a minute because this has just put a hamper on good times for all of us. What do y'all think? It's going to be fun to check this group out. We knew that last year was going to be bad after losing everyone on a team that was awesome. This year might be pretty good to check out.

It looks like NE will be the "preseason" favorite along with C of C, but the Hawks even last year at the end were very competitive. A lot of speculation has been made about starting lineups and that's cool. I like the depth of this team much better as there's a lot more able bodies and some really good freshmen and 2 transfers that will be eligible. There will be some serious competition for jobs/PT and that makes everyone better. And, UNCW has the best player in the CAA in Cacok so that really helps.

If you look at the league, there's the top 2 preseason and there's always Hofstra and the Tribe to deal with. I don't see a reason why the Hawks can't make this interesting once again. The defense has to improve. If it does, the Hawks have a legit chance to really improve and contend with anyone come March IMHO. Much will depend on the maturation of the last year's freshmen/core guys and the emergence of the new guys that are very talented. Let's see.
According to Blueribbon's basketball preseason, the Hawks are picked to finish 6th.

Surprising to me that they had JMU at 5th above us. I know JMU brings everyone back from last season and showed improvement towards the tail end of the season, but I'm not convinced that Rowe is actually that good of a head coach.
My preseason standings, not that it means anything...

1. Northeastern- Brings back their entire team that finished 2nd and IMO should have won the championship game.

2. C of C- Losing PG Chealey hurts, but they still return most of their team from last year including Riller and Brantley. Earl Grant is a very good coach.

3. UNCW- Defensive improvement, and the development of PG Toews will be key. If Cylla is as good as he seems, he and Cacok will be a dynamic duo.

4. Hofstra- Wright-Foreman is back, Gustys is gone thankfully. Mihalich can't coach defense which will be their Achilles heel again.

5. W & M- Always dangerous with their 3pt shooting. Nathan Knight will be key for them.

6. JMU- Returns everyone from last year and finished the season in a positive direction.

7. Delaware- Losing Ryan Daly REALLY hurts.

8. Elon- Underwhelming last season and haven't shown that they can hang in the upper half of the CAA since they've joined. New arena is positive though.

9. Towson- Underwhelmed big time last year and lost nearly everyone of importance.

10. Drexel- Finished near the bottom last year and lost an All-CAA type player in Tremaine Isabell. Not good.

I like UNCW in the #3 spot. He is going to be in BEAST MODE for his senior year. And, he'll have a lot more help to do it.
2010...

That actually looks like a logical order, IMO. There's not much if anything to disagree with there. The only thing I can think of is that I could see Delaware finishing 7th at BEST, but could easily see them anywhere in the 8-10 range without Daly. He single-handedly put them in positions to even compete last year. Without him, they're hoping for a miracle IMO.
Drexel and Delaware were hit hard with Isabell and Daly both deciding to transfer. Both of those teams looked to be climbing out of the bottom of the CAA where where they have been the past 3-4 years. Then with Zane Martin of Towson deciding to transfer also, the CAA took a big hit in talent. Good for us, but bad for the overall conference.

There appears to be 3 tiers....1st (Northeastern and C of C), 2nd (UNCW, Hofstra, W&M), 3rd (JMU, Delaware, Elon, Towson, Drexel). You could probably interchange those teams within those groups.
Middle of the pack, CB has to earn my confidence to think otherwise!

I'd put JMU in that 2nd tier. Their backcourt is arguably the best in the conference.
Brian Mull usually writes the CAA section and likely makes the projected finish projection. He still has a great grasp of what is going on in CAA usually pretty easy to pick first couple of teams and then it is anything goes. Most times a couple surprise teams up or down. 5th or 6th seems very generous to me with our backcourt being the biggest question mark

I can easily see that. I hesitate because they are still very young and not completely sold on Rowe as a head coach yet.
