Conference games were moved up and played.
Out of conference games that the visitor needed to fly were cancelled.
Ga southern to Clemson is a pretty short bus ride.

Virginia played Ohio on Saturday at Vanderbilt's stadium in Nashville. I guess they felt like it was equidistant from both schools. Game drew about 5k I think.
Ohio wanted the check and both probably thought it would help them with bowl eligibility. Two big differences.
Yeah Charlotte was a conference game and our team left Norfolk on Tuesday morning to go to Charlotte. Of course at that time it looked like Charlotte was the safer place to be than Norfolk.

Here is a different side to this. One of the options was a Sat in Oct that both teams have open. Appy could have also moved a date with Arky state. With the amount of tv money involved it wont make a nickles worth of difference.
But lets keep the narrative alive that we are "ducking"
Per the twitterverse, the game against USM will officially not be rescheduled in 2018 and (according to App State AD Doug Gillin) there’s a tentative agreement to play the USM game during the 2024 season. App State has a home game open in 2023, but that spot will likely go to an FCS school. Will play at UNC, vs. ECU and at Wyoming that year.

That is essentially what App offered USM.

Why should we have to rearrange our conference schedule when the opportunity was there to play the game Saturday?

You want App to reach out to ESPN and get a TV game moved to Thursday? In what world does App have leverage over ESPN?

While I know our TV revenue isn't that much (more the CUSA's on a per team basis), but it's a contractual obligation.

USM at a minimum was concerned about the hurricane and travel and why it declined to move the game time and/or location. I'll leave the maximum to speculation.
Crikey! Everything has to be a conspiracy theory these days.

Dam internets..04-cheers
Lol...wow. It shouldn’t be hard to understand that in situations like this, that safety of all involved is the most important thing. But, of course, a football game and it’s outcome is more important to some. Listen, our history includes playing whore games at Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Indiana, Penn State, Nebraska, PITT, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, a lot of those many times. Are you really going to try to sell that we ducked playing you guys, when we will probably have to have that 12th game to even be bowl eligible? This is the top of the list of “come on man” for you.
I guess Apps coach is lying about moving the game location...
Looks like you just won’t be convinced and believe what you hear on the internet. Anyway, good luck to your school and team the rest of the year, and I am glad there was no damage to your area and school, and citizens, which should be the greatest outcome for you.

Moving the game was never an option for USM. Our players wanted to play on a field with a track around it, since they hadn’t done that since high school:
Waterboy doesn’t trust interview from an FBS coach because it’s on the internet... sounds like Mississippi logic.

Two TD dog doesn’t want to play a game.

Looking forward to the next game, should be fun.
clt bets that appys created the hurricane by cheering so hard during the Charlotte game.

when you have 132% of all the fans in the stadium, things can happen.
Please, for the love of god...cite a source showing that we DECLINED to move the game time/location.
Even on Friday, no one knew completely what Hurricane Florence would bring to the area.

Only Clemson, from what I can tell, played on in South Carolina. I didn’t see a single North Carolina based D-1 game played.

I can’t stress this enough. Our conference has insurance that covers our teams in the event of a cancelation. What incentive is there to put fans and all involved under any additional potential danger? Especially when Southern Miss gains nothing monetarily in doing so?
