Noticed something in the Bama/sharks game.On the fumble recovery two OM players went after the ball. One was laying on the sideline boundary while touching the ball.

Should not the ball then be ruled out of bounds no recovery?

He has to have possession on a fumble. If it was a kick-off or punt it could be different.

Just remember when we recovered a ball with a leg on line it was declared out of bounds a number of years back.

This used to be the rule.

ARTICLE 3. Loose Ball Out of Bounds

A ball not in player possession, other than a kick that scores a field goal, is out of bounds when it touches the ground, a player, a game official or anything else that is out of bounds, or that is on or outside a boundary line.

A ball that touches a pylon is out of bounds behind the goal line.

If a live ball not in player possession crosses a boundary line and then is declared out of bounds, it is out of bounds at the crossing point.
If it was the play early in the game where Alabama fumbled that ball was possessed by a player in bounds clearly showed on the replay
