. . . it sure does seem like, with the last 4 years/games as my reference point, that Navy gets every close call/no call their way. Just sayin'
They do.

I'm friends with a couple of Notre Dame alums who DESPISE playing Navy every season for the same reasons.

That's sort of like Duke fans complaining about referees.
If any team deserves getting the close calls it is Navy.

There were several overlooked holding calls that should have been called on the Navy OL. They were blatant. But...it's not why we lost the game...the OP is correct...we beat ourselves. In dry conditions we would have hung 40+ on them easily.

How do you hold the ball that long and run that many plays and get ONE friggin penalty?

They get away with several holds, chop blocks and blocks in the back in every single game, it is incredibly frustrating to watch...

In saying that, fumbles and a few poor coaching calls late cost us the game.
The only 2 things that stick out in my mind after the loss (I was there) is, the last fumble, complete game changer (Navy was a beaten team), hold on to the ball we win....Poor play calling on our last drive, run Henderson, run Henderson, run Henderson, Navy hasn't stopped him the entire game.....Bring on Georgia State. GO TIGERS!

Very very memorable. I remember hearing, "go Patrick" and then a hush on Memphis' side.

Last drive I was thinking Henderson will get 80% of the touches with Taylor, Jr getting the 20%. Told my group no way Norvell plays for a fg with these conditions.
If any of you follow Bill Connelly at SBNation, his S&P+ model calculated that if you take the stats of the game, Memphis could have expected to win that game on Saturday 98% of the time.

Just a really unlikely loss.
The difference in the game was not the officials, the coaches or the rain. The difference in the game was the heart of the Navy quarterback. He demonstrated the courage you expect from an American Sailor. I am looking forward to the Navy game next year in the Liberty Bowl. GTG

Other than T.O.P..... I can’t stand that statistic... When Fisher ran Eddie to gain 3 yards on first & second down then threw the ball to Wycheck on 3rd down, it was disgusting to watch. He assumed that it would lead to championships but what it did was harness McNairs innate abilities....03-banghead Our defense was destroyed by T.O.P. Unfortunately this was a major factor as the D was exhausted..... It hurts being the better team in a loss! 03-hissyfit

He HAD to miss series, as he was getting killled out there! I felt REALLY bad for the kid, as he was totally being sacrificed at the coaches request. if you REALLY analyze what went on, it was actually disgusting to witness the way that Navy used him. That kid wouldn't last three games at that rate....NOT to take ANYTHING away from his abilities....But his effectiveness/production increased as our defense became more weary....and I blame that on the coaches, as being up 21-9, we should have slowed our pace of attack to allow the D to rest 04-jawdrop We also finished the game with 3 TO's.....NOT even utilizing those to allow for a breather 03-idea
Next year this game should be a sellout. To quote the United States Army, "Beat Navy!"

If it is, it'll be reported as 40K.
