They day I sign back up for season tickets... assuming Frazier doesn't extend Carey again..

PS: I was obviously right about Carey
I have this funny feeling that his contract will be extended, especially if we finish 6-6 or better.
As a Founding Father of the Fire Carey Club (FCC) I’m not going to hold the non-conference season against him.

I’d be happy with a conference title this season. A failure to do so would give him one conference title in six seasons, pathetic when you consider the trajectory we were on.

What’s going to happen is they fail to win the MAC, then win a crappy bowl against a crappy team and the Carey apologists will come out with “Thought he couldn’t win a bowl game LOL!”
Frazier seems afraid to fire anybody. Monty and Carey have been around way too long. A change in both programs is needed to move forward. Maintaining the status quo is tantamount to a step backwards.
Are we sure it hasn't been extended already?
I can see the National headline now...”Rod Carey not extended at NIU with a winning record, multiple bowl appearances, a conference championship, several division championships and several outstanding recent recruiting classes at one of the most under-resources FBS programs.”

Never been a huge RC fan, it’s hard to be, but do you guys even think about how ridiculous you sound? Maybe if we have a losing season again but I’m pretty confident we’ll find our way to another bowl game at minimum. If that’s the case...no chance RC doesn’t get an extension.

This ain’t Bama...stop acting liking it is. Unless you want to saddle up some major booster bucks.
Here we go! Let the defenders of Carey begin! Let's extend him for 5 years! Look at all those bowl games he got us to!

I think the headline will read more like "Rod Carey not extended at NIU with a 21-20 overall record and 2-17 record against teams with winning records since beginning of 2015, multiple bowl blowout losses, and no bowl wins."

We're not Alabama, we shouldn't expect success. We should be grateful Carey even accepted the head coaching job at NIU and continues to stay here despite all the better offers.

AND we're at the verge of bankruptcy and can't afford a new coach. All we can do is keep extending and paying Carey and his group of merry coordinators and assistants. Oh, woe is us! Hey, maybe we could get a loan from other MAC schools to save us!

I hear you and respect that viewpoint. However what gets me is the complete failure at QB. If it weren't for the teams potential being squandered and constant embarrassment in bowl games a lot more people would feel the same IMO.

Please no more bowl games under this staff. Its more of an embarrassment ass whipping than a benefit. Also the extra practice time obviously does us no good, and our guys only care about being on a beach.

The “National headline” will be “Rod Carey fired by NIU.”

That’s it. His coaching obituary will be one sentence, not a paragraph. Like you said, this ain’t Bama.

Don’t forget about the division titles he sometimes wins!

You broke my sarcasm meter.
Not having a coaching future defined by now really hurts recruiting. A young player wants some level of assurance the guy he's talking to now will be there over the next few years. Coaches change in a way you can't control, but the common wisdom is recruits prefer a coach with a contract out many years.

It's telling Carey hasn't been extended yet; Carey himself has to be worried about his family and $s without a known job out 12 month. But if it's waiting on a new University President to approve, I hear we won't have to wait much longer.

Frazier's decision is between a 'known' and an 'unknown'. At this point everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses of what Carey brings, he will have good teams and weak teams, and a grumpy face of the program; IMO he's not a strong asset for fund raising or the University's public profile, that is part of the job too. Does Frazier take a gamble the University can attract a new guy who will stay 3-4 years and has enough of an upside beyond what Carey has done? to warrant taking the gamble to make a change? It's also telling that we hear no rumors about Rod being considered for a different job, something a step up.

All this blabber aside, I believe Frazier is leaning toward a confidential search for a new coach, but needs a confirmed University President to be aligned with this.

So Frazier is treating Carey the way Carey treats his QB. Oh the irony.

I’m with you. This has been frustrating as an alum. RC is hard to root for. I’m not an apologist so everybody stop with that crap.. My point is simply if you remove yourself from the proximity of the situation it is flatly absurd to think about a program like NIU firing a coach that has maintained a winning program. Yes, not to our standards, but we have been spoiled in the past decade.

Frazier is not going to fire Carey before his contract is up. NIU simply doesn't have the money to allow this to happen. But STF cannot extend his contract with the subpar results RC has shown. Otherwise he's admitting that mediocre performance is acceptable. If that's the case then STF must go.

Rod Carey is 13-17 in his last 30. He had a great 31-9 start but there’s a clear regression when Kill/Doeren players became Carey players. NIU was 34-7 the 3 years before Carey. If we want to flip the Orange Bowl to Doeren’s record, then the split is:
34-8
[Carey Hired]
31-8
[Carey Regression]
13-17
