In 1954 the Florida State Seminoles took on the Johnny Unitas led Louisville Cardinals. Back then, the Cards played their football games at Manual High School Stadium, still in use today, by the Manual High School Crimsons.
In 1954, a freshmen halfback for the Noles caught two passes
for 36 yards in a 47-6 rout over the Johnny Unitas led Louisville football team. His name was Burt "Buddy" Reynolds. (Lee Corso was also on this squad ... no idea what Lee did in this game. But based on this score, Lee probably did whatever he wanted too. lol).
Johnny played both offense and defense, so it is possible that Johnny U took Buddy down in either of his pass catches.
RIP Mr. Reynolds!

Some interesting tidbits ...
-- That Cardinal game with Florida State was the first time FSU had played a team with African Americans on it.
-- Lee Corso was second on the team in rushing, scoring 3 times as a RB.
-- Burt Reynolds as a true freshman, averaged over 8 yards a carry, and scored twice. Lee probably saw the writing on the wall for future carries. lol
-- Lee Corso was second on the team in receptions, and had 2 TD's receiving.
-- Lee Corso also led the team in interceptions, with 6.
-- Lee Corso was the leading kickoff returner, and second leading punt returner.
Anyway ... 64 years ago, the college football world was very different.

Burt was always very likable...one of my favorite actors. He'll be missed. He did FSU proud.

Yep - I wouldn't call myself a huge fan but he definitely was very likeable ... I haven't even watched the remake of "The Longest Yard". Ain't no WAY Adam Sandler can fill the shoes of Burt Reynolds in that role.

I got to get out more. Never watched the first one and didnt know there was a remake.

Yep, no sissy bars on the helmets. That would make you think twice before diving at a runner's knees!
Burt was a very affable guy. I got to meet him when he was in Opelika, Alabama while dating Sally Field when she was on site for the filming of Norma Rae. Didn't get to meet her, but we dined in the same restaurant with her on several occasions while the Film was being made.
