Looking the final Michigan/Notre Dame game number would have finished 10th last year. Will be very precarious to stay ranked this year.
updated late for week 2.
Ohio St/TCU should for week 3 take over the #1 spot.
LSU/Auburn should get good final number as well...

USC/Texas should not even get on this early top 10.
Love this thread. Thanks for doing.
Updated for week 3.

Amazingly the Alabama/Ole Miss blood bath cracks the top 10.

Not great for Fox- the USC/Texas game didn't even get 3 million(2.95 million). It's right now the #14 game of the season. It beat BYU/Wisconsin by only 37k viewers.
Not to ask for more work on your part, but two additional bits of info might be interesting to keep track of for the top 10 games in addition to the schools, network and date- Ranks at the time of the game and time slot.

Since all 3 conferences have contracts with both Fox and ABC (I know the Jerry World game is a separate deal), I wonder what the ratings would have been if the USC-UT and OSU-TCU games switched stations. I know the OSU game would still finish on top, but would the viewers be the same?

The question is does ABC get some viewers just from a historical point for televising college football much longer than Fox? I’m just talking 100-200K at the most.

Being on ABC/ESPN instead of Fox is worth far more viewers than that.

ESPN promotes the heck out of its upcoming games through its TV channels and website. Fox has almost no pregame promotion at all for games on Fox OTA or on FS1. They basically shuttered the Fox Sports website when they laid off all of their sportswriters, and FS1 isn't worth much for pregame promotion because the FS1 audience for anything other than live games is microscopic.

Look at the ratings for all of last season's games. Whenever Fox and ABC have comparably attractive games in the same window, Fox loses and often loses badly. Fox's prime time games often finish behind both ABC and ESPN games in the same window. The comparison between comparably attractive games in the same window between FS1 and ESPN2 (let alone ESPN) is even more embarrassing for Fox.
Fox promotes, but the product is inconsistent. One Saturday night, you might see Texas or OU before you. Next week, it’s back to Cops. You now know ABC and ESPN will have something. NBC’s good for ND. CBS good for SEC late afternoon stuff (that bleeds into primetime).

This weekends game with Texas vs Southern Cal should be a good indicator FOX has been promoting this game non-stop, claiming it to be a "rubber match".
We will see if Texas has drawing power on the west coast, FOX has any college football audience, or if anyone outside of Los Angeles cares about Southern Cal anymore.
The ratings on this game should tell us lot about the future.

Huh? It was mentioned above that the USC-UT game had over 4MM less viewers than OSU-TCU, and doesn’t even place in the top 10 this early in the season.

While it's not totally apples-to-apples (Ohio State and TCU were both ranked, for example), it is an indictment of Fox vs. ESPN to some extent.

I think both teams were irrelevant to the playoff conversation because of their blemishes coming into the game. That's going to kill off some national interest.

Going forward, it may not matter who is on the other side of Alabama, Ohio State, etc., if they're undefeated. This could tailspin into a last man standing kind of thing; save primetime for the relevant only.

last year 7 of the top 10 games featured either Alabama or Ohio St. 2 of the other 3 were Georgia/Auburn games.

6 of the top 10 games started before 5pm last year. I don't know how much it's going to change. The SEC is going to want to keep that late afternoon top game kickoff I think. That slot got the top game of the year last year.

Michigan/Florida 1st day of the season.

Now I'm confused...I thought you were looking at regular season, because I was looking for Army-Navy which was #7 in both "highest rated" and "most watched" in the convenient table at sportsmedia.com (which was regular season top 10).
Army Navy gets bumped out of the top 10 by bowls, but was already ahead of UF-Michigan in ratings and viewers.

Regular season, your "Alabama or Ohio State" is 5/10. Adding bowls gets you to 7/10 and 2 of 3 would be UGA-Oklahoma and UGA-Auburn...but then the "other" is Orange Bowl Wisconsin Miami

Those SEC games are notorious for stretching out and leaking into early primetime, though. If you're heading into 7:30 pre-game and find a relatively competitive game or relevant team still playing at that point, you keep your eyes on it.

You're right, the SEC and CBS would be stupid to stop it. But if you're not a fan of that stuff, it's pretty bad for the rest of us watching television at that time.

no, regular season would still be 6/10.....
Alabama/Auburn
Ohio St/Wisconsin
Alabama/Florida St
Ohio St/Michigan
Penn St/Ohio St
Oklahoma/Ohio St

Georgia/Auburn was 2 of the other 4, with Army/Navy and Michigan/Florida as the others.

The Army/Navy game removed Alabama/Mississippi St....

Alabama was involved in games 11 and 13(LSU). Michigan/Penn St was #12.

So Alabama, Ohio St, Michigan, and Georgia were involved in 12 of the 13 top games last year.

Yeah, counting past 5 clearly gave me trouble, even after sportsmediawatch did the work already -
